Coastal Gan Weekly Update – Week 1

What a magical first week at Coastal Gan!

We began on Monday with our Family Day meet-and-greet. This gave the children the chance to see the people they trust most, helping them feel at home in their new Gan, building a beautiful bridge between family and school.

On Tuesday, our very first full day, we introduced our “All About Us” (our mesosystem) book. We spoke about how each child is surrounded by people, places, and experiences that help shape who they are. Inspired by Bronfenbrenner’s circles, we will spend these first few weeks exploring ourselves, our individuality, and our close relationships. We also talked about how each of us is a treasure, then went digging through kinetic sand to find hidden treasures of our own.

On Wednesday, we explored individuality through art and play. Using loose parts, the children created faces in playdough and noticed all the unique features that make us who we are.

On Thursday, we continued our journey of self-discovery. We made fingerprints on stamp mats, each one unique, just like us, and sang “Where is Thumbkin?” to learn about our fingers. For morning snack we measured and mixed waffle batter, and later prepared our own pizzas for lunch. In the afternoon, we went on a tiyul (neighborhood walk) in the rain, then returned to our outdoor classroom for the pure joy of puddle-jumping.

On Friday, we prepared for Shabbat by baking challah together and celebrating with a joyful Shabbat party.
It was a truly amazing first week of school, full of laughter, learning, discovery, and connection. Thank you, parents, for trusting us with your most precious treasures. We are honored to learn and grow alongside them.

Shabbat Shalom,
 The Coastal Gan Team
