New JLI Course Beginning “How Success Thinks” At the core of “How Success Thinks” are six key productivity concepts, from motivation and goal setting to creativity and relationship building, which explain why some people get so much done. Drawing on 3000 years of Jewish wisdom from the Talmud and Kabbalah – as well as the latest findings in neuroscience, psychology, and behavioral economics – this eye-opening course explains that the most productive people on earth don’t merely act differently; they view the world, and their choices, in profoundly different ways. By learning how to cultivate your signature strengths, adopt a growth mind-set, access your inner well of creativity, deal with weaknesses, and overcome procrastination and other obstacles that lie in the way of your success, Jewish wisdom and positive psychology will help you get more of what you want and less of what you don’t. Wake up and realize your full potential, gain absolute clarity about you’re after and how you’re going to get it, and boost your overall energy and effectiveness as you explore fascinating Jewish insights into the workings of the human psyche. Sign up today by logging onto www.myjli.com. For more information call 760-943-8891 or www.chabadatlacosta.com/JLI. The six-week course is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 15th at 7pm. The cost is $100 per person, but if you bring a friend you get our buy one get one half off deal. How Success Thinks is brought in partnership with the Washington School of Psychiatry and JLI. The course is accredited by several associations and boards for Continuing Education for Psychologists, Social Workers, LMFTs, Certified Professional Counselor and Physicians in most states. THIS COURSE IS NOT TO BE MISSED. Rosh Chodesh Event for Women Scheduled for THIS Tuesday at 7pm The Doris Markus Rosh Chodesh women's event for Cheshvan. There are no special holidays in the month of Cheshvan. There is, however, one important and special day that repeats weekly - Shabbos!! This month we will be creating a Shabbos related work of art. Tuesday, November 1st at 7pm. This is also a lead in to Shabbat San Diego which will take place next weekend.
Shabbat San Diego Coming Shabbat San Diego is for all San Diegans, affiliated and non-affiliated. The tagline, “Keeping It Together”, refers to Jews of San Diego and around the world, across divisions and all denominations, sharing the experience together. So What Have We Been Up To? Baruch Hashem, thank G-d, we have had a tremendously successful (and busy) month of Tishrei! Over the Holidays we had community candle lighting events for the women (more than 300 candles lit - ON TIME). We hosted over 1000 people in our Sukkah throughout the holiday. We had a Sukkah-mobile that reached an additional 50+ people all over Carlsbad and Encinitas including a visit to LegoLand. Including both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur we had more than 500 people come through our doors. We hosted 17 communal meals and Kiddushes, including both nights and days of Rosh Hashanah, Erev Yom Kippur, post Yom Kippur, both nights and both days of the 1st days of Sukkos, lunch and dinner on an intermediate day of Sukkos, a Bar Mitzvah luncheon on Shabbos of Sukkos, both day lunches for Shmini Atzeres and Simchas Torah, and of course our fabulous Simchas Torah banquet. All told well ‘north’ of 1000 meals were served (and all of it was delicious!). Our most sincere thank you to Naomi Alter, Sheila Lebovitz, and our entire corps of kitchen volunteers!

The first Memorial Board was dedicated by the Brunelle Family and the new Board was dedicated by the Alter Family. We are currently offering Memorial Plaques to those who wish to perpetually honor the memory of a loved one in a most dignified and permanent manner. Those who dedicate Memorial Plaques will also receive yearly reminders of the Yahrzeit and the light on the Board will be illuminated each year on the Yahrzeit. We also have a gorgeous Tree of Life dedicated by the Lieberman Family that will shortly be going up. The purpose of the plaques on the Tree of Life is to commemorate joyous occasions (like Bar/Bat Mitzvah, anniversaries, special birthdays, weddings etc.). The donation is only $360 per plaque for the Memorial Board or $180 for the Tree of Life. Cell Phones & Chatting During Services Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation. Shul Etiquette Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family. At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul. It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like. Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services. We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). We look forward to seeing you here! Please Patronize Our Sponsors Your Chabad Real Estate Agent & Mortgage Broker Jonathan Rozansky is a licensed realtor and mortgage professional.
