The cost to attend is only $25 per person for unlimited casino play and refreshments. ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE SHUL. RSVP by contacting Naomi at [email protected], or calling 760-436-3687. End-of-Year Appeal
Dear Friends,
I hope this message catches you before the chaos of the holidays overwhelms you. As we gather with our families to say thank you for all of the blessings in our lives, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank YOU for being a part of my life. As I watch Chabad at La Costa continue to grow and blossom each day, my heart is filled with gratitude to the Almighty who has blessed the work of our hands with success beyond our dreams. At the same time, I am keenly aware that 'it takes a village' and you are my village.
As the fiscal year comes to a close, we once again reach out to all of our friends to help close the gap with our End-of-Year fundraising drive. Please take a moment and make a generous donation to our year-end campaign. Your donation is a beautiful mitzvah and greatly appreciated!
As you know, I take great pride in having the leanest budget in town. We operate a community shul, a community Hebrew School, community holiday awareness projects and more all for less than anybody thinks possible. At the same time we have built and are in our spacious new facility that will serve our community's needs for many years to come. But the fees we charge don't fully cover the cost of doing business. To ensure that every Jew in this area has a spiritual home, our fees are low, with membership voluntary. As we near the end of the calendar year, we near the end of our cash flow.
It hurts me to ask for donations because I know that there are many others hurting as well, but ask I must. I believe that G-d blesses each of us with the ability to fulfill the mitzvah of Tzedakah in some capacity. Whether it is $18 or $1,800, whatever amount you give is a mitzvah. Besides, it's a good time of year to make a donation - you get the tax deduction and that sweetens the pot a little.
There's no greater 'bang for your buck' than a gift to Chabad. So please, open your heart and consider making one more donation, one last end-of-year donation, that will help keep us in the black until our new commitments kick in.
With Blessings,
Rabbi Eilfort
Building Update
Our kitchen equipment has been installed! Thanks to the generosity of the Joseph, Brunelle, and Alter Families we have a fabulously appointed commercial-grade kitchen! Those who have been to our shul know very well how great the food has been over the years. The miracles wrought by our Kiddush team, led by Naomi Alter, has been accomplished despite the kitchen. Just imagine what they will be able to produce in a properly outfitted kitchen. Come on by and get a look for yourself.

Hebrew School Gets Facelift
A LOT is happening at our Hebrew School! So far this year our students have learned about the holidays, gone 'Sukkah Hopping' all over the neighborhood, and have gotten off to a fantastic start with our Alef Champ reading system. But that is only the beginning…
We have invested in a new curriculum called Build a Jewish Home, and so far the reviews are outstanding. Morah Muka has continued with her Jewish History Power Points that keep the students riveted during her lessons. Our new teachers Rabbi Efraim and Rabbi Menachem have hit if off with the students and will add a ton of enthusiasm. We are initiating numerous innovative ideas; like extra tutoring on the phone to achieve Hebrew reading proficiency for all of our students, and have made available a Hebrew writing course, to insure that our students not only learn a lot, but that they have a positive experience doing so.
Hebrew School takes place on Sundays at our storefront location. Please contact Hebrew School Director Morah Nechama for further info or to enroll your child/ren. [email protected].

Shul Etiquette
Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family.
At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul.
It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like.
Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services.
We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). We look forward to seeing you here!
Minyan
Our daily Minyan has been a tremendous source of good will for our community. Several people have been able to utilize the Minyan in order to say Kaddish for a loved one. Others have become accustomed to the great Mitzvah of davening with a Minyan because there is one readily available. Beginning this week, a couple of our regulars will be out of town for the next several weeks. We therefore need a few additional commitments so that the Minyan doesn’t slow down, G-d forbid. We are asking those who are able to make a commitment to the Minyan to please do so now. Some people are counting on our Minyan to be able to recite Kaddish for their loved ones. This is tremendously important. Please commit to a day or two per week (at the very least). People who have joined the Minyan have universally reported that they find the experience uplifting and have described it as a great way to start the day. Please respond to this message if you are able to help us in this regard.
Learn the Code of Jewish Law with Rabbi Eilfort
A daily class in practical Jewish Law is held immediately following the Minyan in our storefront location taught by Rabbi Eilfort. Using the Code of Jewish Law, known in Hebrew as the Shulchan Aruch, participants are able to discuss the laws while learning about the ongoing opportunities one has to serve the Almighty on a moment-by-moment basis. The class begins at about 8:50am and lasts for about 20 minutes. There is no charge to attend.
Cell Phones & Chatting During Services
Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation.
