Chabad Weekly Update

B"H

MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI

It’s been nearly three weeks since our nation, the Jewish people, has been forever changed.

Three weeks of grief and mourning, of intense prayer and increased mitzvot, of our heroic soldiers and citizens putting themselves in harm's way to protect their brothers and sisters.

If there is one thing that the past three weeks have taught us, it is that we are one people, chosen by G-d, and destined for a higher purpose. Gone are all the superficial differences. We’ve seen Jews from all walks of life rise above the fray and unite in ways that are at once extraordinarily heartbreaking and deeply uplifting.

It is this togetherness, this oneness, this unity, that the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, repeatedly assured will be the primary vehicle for G-d's blessings of safety and success of our people.

P.S. Please remember throughout the coming days and weeks that every single one of our prayersand mitzvot (including our charity) plays a crucial role for the safety and security of our brothers and sisters in Israel! For our existence as a people throughout the millennia is a supra-natural one, dependent entirely on the blessings and protection of our Creator.

With prayerful wishes for the safety of our people everywhere—especially in the Holy Land, healing to the injured, safe return of our hostages, and that Israel’s leaders have the strength and fortitude to follow the Torah’s directives to act decisively for the protection our people.

Shabbat shalom!

MAZEL TOV TO THE CHAZEN FAMILY ON MAYA’S BAS MITZVAH!

UNITY SHABBOS THIS WEEK

This week is a county-wide unity Shabbos, as we express our utter solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. Join us as we daven and learn in honor of Israel!

SPECIAL YARZEIT MINYAN NEEDED

Please note that Rabbi Eilfort needs a Minyan (a quorum of 10 Jewish men, 13 years and older) so Kaddish can be recited for his father, David Eilfort of blessed memory, on Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, and Wednesday afternoon. If you are able to help with this important Mitzvah please respond to this message with the service/s you can attend.

Enhanced Security

Our number one priority is to ensure the safety and security of our shul family. We have a robust security system in place. We have gone to the added expense of hiring a uniformed, armed guard, who is with us, watching over us, in addition to our internal security team.

The added layer of security is expensive. Please help us by donating to the security of our shul community by following this link: www.chabadatlacosta.com/donate. The cost is approximately $300 per week. All donations are tax-deductible.

Supporting Our Community

Volunteers Needed

We have received some requests for help from our community and the Rabbis and Rebbetzins are maxed out in their commitments. If you would be able to visit with some people who are not well and/or lonely, or to help with our weekly Challah/Soup deliveries, it would be greatly appreciated and a HUGE Mitzvah! Please respond to this message if you can help.

G-d bless and THANK YOU in advance!

How to Make a Donation (or Payment)

We would be nowhere without the generous support of our community. Please know that your support is profoundly appreciated!

There are many ways to donate besides for checks and cash. Following please find a list of the various other ‘platforms’ that are available for secure donations that go directly and entirely into the synagogue account (even though they say Nechama's name).

1. PayPal  [email protected]  or PayPal.me/Neilfort

Kiddush Sponsor

This week’s Kiddush is being sponsored by David and Anna Mintz in honor of the Anniversary! It is being cosponsored by Rabbi and Rebbetzin Eilfort in memory of David Eilfort.

Please join us for the weekly celebration!

An Important Note about Kiddushes –

The policy of the shul is to allow multiple sponsors for every Kiddush unless it is a Bar/Bat Mitzvah or something similar (like a 50th wedding anniversary etc.).

There is no such thing as an exclusive Kiddush sponsor.

This is our policy for numerous reasons, not least of which is the fact that Kiddush sponsorships help generate much-needed income for our community and encourages more people to participate.

We thank you for your support and understanding!

Soup & Challah Sponsors

Soup and Challah is being sponsored by Clive Walden & the estate of Channah Hale. A big Yasher Koach to our volunteer deliverers - Carrie Rossenfeld.

Challah is delivered to Mental Health Residential Centers in the area, people undergoing chemotherapy, and people who really love the addition to their Shabbos experience.

Deliver and get a bag of challah for your family as well!

RABBI'S WEEKLY ARTICLE
Rabbi's Thoughts and Haftarah Overview

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR ISRAEL?

As the war in Israel and Gaza continues, we, every one of us, is needed. Israel, and the millions of Jews living there, are under constant threat. We have seen the obscenity of millions around the world cheering on the terrorists and blaming the victim, Israel, for the bestial behavior of those who fight for evil.

Many will use this abhorrent attack as an excuse to call for Israel making even more compromises as they chase a false narrative of how to achieve peace.

DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE RHETORIC!

The reason there is no peace is because the other side rejects Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. There is no way to negotiate with that attitude. The Palestinians have rejected their own state numerous times. Why? Because it is not really a state that they are after. They do not want Israel to exist under ANY circumstances.

Even before the murders ended in Israel the demonstrations against Israel began. The demonstrations had/have nothing to do with civilians dying due to Hamas using them as human shields as Israel reaches into Gaza to destroy Hamas’ ability to further murder innocents in Israel. How many Arab civilians in Gaza would be dead if Hamas had not gone on their barbarous and murderous rampage on Simchas Torah? The answer is zero. Hamas, AND ONLY Hamas, is responsible for the death of every single civilian in this conflict, and that is EXACTLY how Hamas wants it! They TARGET civilians! They hide behind civilians as they attempt to murder Israelis.

Israel needs political cover to accomplish what needs to be done; the utter destruction of the Hamas terror organization and its ability to bring death and destruction to others. We have an obligation to speak loudly and clearly to our elected officials and local media, and not allow the side of evil to shout us down.

The safety and security of our brothers and sisters in Israel informs the safety and security of us here. This is our battle.

The Almighty, in His benevolence, has given us (the side of good) everything we need to be victorious. We must find the courage within ourselves to win this war and end this form of evil!

Haftarah for Parshas Lech Lecha from Chabad.org

Isaiah 40:27-41:16.

The haftorah for this week discusses Abraham's journey to the land of Canaan at G‑d's behest, and touches upon Abraham's miraculous battle against the four kings, both of which are described in this week's Torah reading.

The prophet Isaiah addresses Israel's complaint: ""My way [of serving G‑d] has been ignored by the Lord, and from my G‑d, my judgment passes [unrewarded]."

Isaiah reminds Israel of the Creator's greatness. The time will come when "He will give the tired strength, and to him who has no strength, He will increase strength. Youths shall become tired and weary, and young men shall stumble, but those who put their hope in the Lord shall renew [their] vigor, they shall raise wings as eagles; they shall run and not weary, they shall walk and not tire." Nevertheless, "there is no comprehension of His wisdom," and as such, at times we cannot understand why He chooses to delay the reward of the righteous.

The haftorah then turns its attention to the idolatrous nations of the world. Isaiah reminds them of Abraham's greatness, how after arriving in Canaan he pursued and defeated four mighty kings. "The islands saw and feared; the ends of the earth quaked." Nevertheless, the nations who witness these miracles did not abandon their ways. "The [idol] craftsman strengthened the smith, the one who smoothes [the idol] with the hammer strengthened the one who wields the sledge hammer; the one who glues its coating says, 'It is good,' and he strengthened it with nails that it should not move..."

G‑d promises the Jewish nation to reward them for their loyalty to G‑d. "Do not fear for I am with you; be not discouraged for I am your G‑d. . . Behold all those incensed against you shall be ashamed and confounded; those who quarreled with you shall be as naught and be lost."

Create Your Jewish Legacy Plan for the Future - Now

We have been blessed with life! Yet, we know that no one lives forever. This begs the question, “What will your legacy be?” Most of us have children, and they certainly should figure prominently into our plans. But our children are only a part of what we leave behind. Just as we endeavor to give Tzedakah generously, so as to selflessly make the world a better place while we are alive, so too we need to make sure that we leave a percentage of our estates for the benefit of others. Judaism tells us that it is incumbent upon us to leave the world better than when we found it. We do this by giving Tzedakah.

We can help.

Chabad has partnered with the Jewish Community Foundation in the creation of our Legacy Circle "Generation to Generation - Ensuring a Jewish Tomorrow, Today".  Many people do not prepare appropriately for the inevitable. They do not leave a will, or even if they do it is not consistent with Jewish Law. If one wants his body to be handled with the respect and care mandated by Jewish Law or if one wants the funeral service conducted according to Jewish Law, it must be arranged in advance. Don’t leave these critical details to luck!

Contact Rabbi Eilfort for a private appointment so these important matters can be handled how you want.

Send a personal email to   [email protected] to schedule an appointment today.

Memorial Plaques & Tree of Life Plaques Available

Our beautiful Memorial Boards have been installed. We specifically designed our custom-built bookcases to ‘frame’ each of the boards. The first Memorial Board was dedicated by the Brunelle Family, the second Board was dedicated by the Alter Family, and the new Board has been dedicated by Miriam Reisman in memory of her husband, Harold.

We are currently offering Memorial Plaques to those who wish to perpetually honor the memory of a loved one in a most dignified and permanent manner. Those who dedicate Memorial Plaques will also receive yearly reminders of the Yarzeit in the newsletter and in the calendar and the light on the Board will be illuminated each year on the Yarzeit. The donation is only $500 per Memorial Board plaque.

We also have a gorgeous Tree of Life dedicated by the Lieberman Family that has been ‘growing. The purpose of the plaques on the Tree of Life is to commemorate joyous occasions (like Bar/Bat Mitzvah, anniversaries, special birthdays, weddings etc.). The donation is $180 for a leaf on the Tree of Life.

Those who wish to participate should send an email to   [email protected], or call Rabbi Eilfort at 760-943-8891.

We are excited to designate a section of our Tree of Life to our Legacy Circle. Watch the Tree and see article above.

Shabbat Services with Meaning & Joy

Every Saturday we get together to celebrate the holy Shabbat in song and prayer. Our services are both traditional and user-friendly, as we fully recognize that not everyone has experience Davening (praying) in a traditional setting. What those who have joined have found is that the atmosphere in our synagogue is conducive to meaningful meditation. A knowledge of Hebrew is not necessary to participate. In fact, the only thing that is needed is the desire to learn and to connect to the Almighty. It is an enriching experience not to be missed! Shabbat services begin at 10am and conclude at approximately 12:30pm and are followed by a wonderful community lunch. There is no cost to attend and reservations are not needed.

Membership

NOW is the time to join the family! Membership includes High Holiday seats and discounts on other programs and activities. However, the main reason to join is to demonstrate your commitment to the future of Judaism in our area and to our community.

If you have already filled out and returned your Membership form please accept this message as our sincere thank you!

We urge you to pick the level of Membership and the financial commitment you feel comfortable with, and to fill out the form that you will find by following this link: www.ChabadatLaCosta.com/membership. We thank all of our amazing donors!

Shul Etiquette

Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family.

At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul.

It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like.

Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services.

We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). We look forward to seeing you here!

Cell Phones & Chatting During Services

Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation.

Critical Maintenance Issue – Your Cooperation Needed

PLEASE NOTE: The ONLY thing that may be flushed is toilet paper – NO EXCEPTIONS. This means tissue, baby wipes, paper towels, or any other product may NEVER be flushed, but instead must be disposed of in the provided trash receptacles.

THANK YOU for your cooperation!

Public Service Announcement – Let’s Work TOGETHER to Maintain OUR Shul

We have a beautiful shul. Everyone agrees. It is not easy to maintain everything, but we work hard to keep things clean and in good working order. We need your help.

Our sanctuary is graced with gorgeous, custom made, stained glass windows. These windows MUST be kept in pristine condition. Please respect the windows by only looking and never touching them. G-d forbid, they can easily be scratched if we are not careful. Also, please do not put ANY objects (cups, books, tissues etc.) on the window sills as it detracts from the windows.

Our custom-built furniture from Israel is as precious as it looks. People have put down cups (full and empty) on the partitions and the shelves. This is inappropriate. Children cannot sit on or climb on the furnishings – other than sitting in the pews as they were designed to be used. No exceptions.

Please put away your own Talis and prayer books, and replace the book racks when done using them. Please throw away your own garbage.

If we can all work together we will keep our shul beautiful!

THANK YOU for your understanding and cooperation.

B"H

MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI

Words cannot describe how we all feel right now. There are simply no terms in the dictionary to describe the depth of the pain, the outrage, and the sadness.

But neither can words contain the strength of the Jewish People’s resolve, and the immense power of our faith and our unity. United as one and firm in our trust in G-d, Torah assures us victory over the evil people who are blinded by darkness.

I’m sure just like you, I find myself incessantly checking my news feed, fearfully wondering what is happening right now in our homeland. In moments of greater clarity, though, I remind myself that keeping up with the latest news will do little to help. Instead, I try to push myself to take on an extra mitzvah, learn a little more Torah, give more charity, or say an extra chapter of Psalms.

Indeed, it is heartening to see how in Jewish communities around the world, individuals are mobilizing to help. Massive undertakings are underway to provide material aid and spiritual mitzvot for the sake of our brothers. Witnessing these acts of unity truly makes me so proud right now to be a Jew.

Let’s remember: We are all in this together. And together, with G-d’s help, we shall overcome.

We pray for healing for the injured, safe return for the hostages, and divine protection for our brave IDF soldiers.

Shabbat shalom,

DO SOMETHING FOR ISRAEL

During this time of a terrorist-initiated, anti-Semitic, anti-Western Civilization war, a profound sadness for the loss of life makes many of us feel helpless.

We are NOT helpless! Baruch Hashem, Israel is well defended with staunch allies, who recognize that the Jewish state is on the front line in the war against barbarity and evil.

We have a part to play, as this is a spiritually-influenced battle. Israel is being attacked because it is Jewish. Therefore it is OUR Judaism which is being attacked.

What, then, can/should we be DOING?

We must offer material support to our brothers and sisters in Israel. The need is immense. We are being approached daily by dozens of worthy charities. There are some seeking to provide the soldiers with items that are scarce; items as varied as bullet proof vests and first aid kits to pizzas to Tzitzis to Tefilin to barbecues for soldiers, to medical supplies and ambulances.

Which need speaks to you?

Locally, we have Israelis flocking here that we are trying to help place for Shabbos and provide some basic necessities.

Due to the spiritual component of this existential battle we need to make an honest assessment of where we can make meaningful improvements in our divine service. We must emphasize Ahavas Yisroel, Jewish unity is already making a huge impact on this war.

- Women, please light Shabbat candles on time, having in mind the hostages, may they be freed immediately, the wounded, the dead, and those living in terror in the shadow of the beast.

- Men, the Torah teaches us that a Jew wearing Tefilin strikes terror into the hearts of those who seek to destroy us. On the opposite side of the coin, it fills the heart with love of Hashem as we contemplate his greatness and His attachment to us.

Please join us this Shabbos in shul as we will say a special prayer for the hostages and discuss ways that we can do our part.

EVERY ONE OF US COUNTS!

It is also important to be well informed so that you are able to respond to the vicious lies being spread by the enemy and his allies and supporters. For instance; when someone says “Free Palestine” what they are actually doing is calling for the eradication of our people, G-d forbid. Would the mainstream media post calls by the KKK to destroy all African Americans (G-d forbid!)? We are witnessing profound moral confusion and outright evil on full display on campuses across the country. Not a word of protest when Israeli hospitals were PURPOSELY targeted by the enemy a few weeks ago. Now, when a Palestinian hospital was apparently damaged and many died, the shrieking has begun in earnest. By the way, it wasn’t an Israeli rocket that destroyed the hospital. To the haters out there, it doesn’t matter. They blame Israel even after Israel proved it wasn’t them!

Question: how many Palestinian civilians would be dead if Hamas had not attacked Israel? The answer is none. How many Palestinian civilians have been purposely targeted by Israel? The answer is none. How many of the Palestinian civilian casualties have been caused because Hamas used them as human shields? The answer is ALL OF THEM! This catastrophe is the fault of Hamas and its enablers/supporters.

DON’T LET THEM SHOUT YOU DOWN!

DON’T LET THEM INTIMIDATE YOU!

We are STRONG!

Be an advocate for goodness and kindness and justice! Israel needs YOU/US.

Four Ways YOU Can Help Israel

Enhanced Security

In light of the current situation in Israel we have added layers of security at Chabad at La Costa for Services including an armed guard. This week the Carlsbad Police have demonstrated an increased awareness and showing by having additional drive bys and a car in the parking lot.

We are asking our community to ADD in MITZVOT. Especially today women should bring more light into the world by Lighting Shabbat Candles.

New Course of Study for Weekly Parsha Class:

Rabbi Sholom taught the Rohr JLI's Torah Studies lesson this week. We have 3 Student Books left. This is a weekly class you will not want to miss. Availabe in person, on Zoom, and on Facebook Live.

The WORLD OF KABBALAH is coming to YOU

What do the Kabbalistic terms mean? How do they apply to you? Six lessons with Nechama. Register at myjli.com/learn/carlsbad.

Kiddush Sponsor

This Kiddush for this Shabbos is being sponsored by Beverly Galperin in memory of Misha Galperin on his Yarzeit. It is being sponsored by Sheila Lebovitz in honor her birthday! It is also being sponsored by the Eilfort family in honor of Rabbi Eilfort’s birthday!

Haftarah for Parshas No’ach

Isaiah 54:1-10.

Forsaken Jerusalem is likened to a barren woman devoid of children. G‑d enjoins her to rejoice, for the time will soon come when the Jewish nation will return and proliferate, repopulating Israel's once desolate cities. The prophet assures the Jewish people that G‑d has not forsaken them. Although He has momentarily hid His countenance from them, He will gather them from their exiles with great mercy. The haftorah compares the final Redemption to the pact G‑d made with Noah in this week's Torah reading. Just as G‑d promised to never bring a flood over the entire earth, so too He will never again be angry at the Jewish people.

"For the mountains may move and the hills might collapse, but My kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of My peace collapse."

Volunteers Needed

We have received some requests for help from our community and the Rabbis and Rebbetzins are maxed out in their commitments. Please respond to this message if you can help.

G-d bless and THANK YOU in advance!

Ongoing Mitzvah Opportunity

One of our founding members, Rachel Perez, widow of Elias Perez, is homebound and would greatly appreciate mid-day visits. If you are able to do this tremendous Mitzvah it would be greatly appreciated. Rachel lives about a mile from shul. The visits do not have to be long, nor does anyone have to make a long-term commitment. Simply popping in from time to time, when you are available, would be wonderful. Please respond to this message if you are able to do this beautiful Mitzvah.

New Mitzvah Opportunity

Volunteering

Our Soup and Challah Project has been going strong for three years! It was sponsored by Channah Hale and now carried on in her memory.

We are at the point that we need NEW volunteers to drive and deliver food packages around the area.

MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI

The final days of the month of holidays are upon us, and what better way to celebrate than by dancing with the Torahs? The culmination of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot happens on Simchat Torah, when we become the Torah’s feet as we dance around the synagogue, celebrating having reached this great milestone.

Throughout the year we’ve been reading the weekly Torah portion, and on Simchat Torah we read the final portion amidst great joy, celebrating with singing, dancing, and l’chaims. After celebrating at night (Saturday night, October 7), we return to the synagogue in the morning for more celebrating. After again dancing with the Torahs, we read the final portion of the Book of Deuteronomy, and then, without skipping a beat, we start over from the beginning of Genesis.

Torah study is a never-ending pursuit, and on Simchat Torah we don’t just celebrate the conclusion of a cycle, but also the beginning of a new one. We don’t even wait a day; as soon as we are done we go right back to the beginning, in order to emphasize that Torah must be a part of our lives at every point.

Just like life keeps going at a steady pace, so does Torah study, and what better time to commit to a steady schedule of Torah study than on the day that we celebrate the Torah? Take a moment to check out the various study opportunities we have here at Chabad, and let us know when to expect you.

We look forward to studying and celebrating with you!

RABBI'S WEEKLY ARTICLE
Rabbi's Thoughts and Haftarah Overview

Haftarah for Shmini Atzeres & Simchas Torah

Shmini Atzeres:

I Kings 8:54-66.

The setting for the haftorah for the holiday of Shemini Atzeret is the dedication of the first Holy Temple by King Solomon. The dedication was a seven-day festive affair, which was immediately followed by the seven festive days of the holiday of Sukkot. And then, as we read in this haftorah, on the "eighth day" (i.e., Shemini Atzeret), Solomon sent the people off to their homes.

The reading opens immediately after King Solomon concludes a lengthy public prayer to G‑d. He then blesses the assembled Jewish people and encourages them to follow G‑d's will and observe the commandments—it is this blessing that occupies the bulk of the reading.

The King then inaugurates the Holy Temple by bringing various offerings: peace offerings, burnt offerings, and meal and fat offerings. And then, "on the eighth day he dismissed the people, and they blessed the King and went to their homes, rejoicing and delighted of heart for all the goodness that G‑d had wrought for David His servant and for Israel His people."

Simchas Torah:

I Kings 8:54-66.

The setting for the haftorah for the holiday of Shemini Atzeret is the dedication of the first Holy Temple by King Solomon. The dedication was a seven-day festive affair, which was immediately followed by the seven festive days of the holiday of Sukkot. And then, as we read in this haftorah, on the "eighth day" (i.e., Shemini Atzeret), Solomon sent the people off to their homes.

FUNDRAISING & VOLUNTEERING
Giving & Helping Opportunities

2. Venmo @Nechama-Eilfort

3. Cashapp $nechamae

4. Zelle (Bank of America)  [email protected]

 The Foundation Project - Donations

We are raising funds that will be used towards completing our basement. This project will include a TEEN LOUNGE, CLASSROOMS, a PLAYGROUND, OFFICES, STORAGE SPACE, BATHROOMS, and more. Call Rabbi to inquire about available dedications. The money we raise also goes towards scholarships for Hebrew School students, our Challah and Chicken Soup program, and all of our ongoing expenses.

For more pictures and information go to chabadatlacosta.com/JLC

Ongoing Mitzvah Opportunity

One of our founding members, Rachel Perez, widow of Elias Perez, is homebound and would greatly appreciate mid-day visits. If you are able to do this tremendous Mitzvah it would be greatly appreciated. Rachel lives about a mile from shul. The visits do not have to be long, nor does anyone have to make a long-term commitment. Simply popping in from time to time, when you are available, would be wonderful. Please respond to this message if you are able to do this beautiful Mitzvah.

New Mitzvah Opportunity

MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI

One of the focal points of the holiday of Sukkot is “Simchat Beit Hashoevah”—the celebration associated with the water-drawing ceremony in Temple times.

Every year, on the second night of the holiday, water was drawn from a special well just outside Jerusalem, to be used in the water libation that would accompany the festival offerings. Jews from all over would amass in the Temple’s courtyard for an all-night celebration. Large torches were lit, trumpets were sounded, and rabbis and lay people danced together. The celebrations continued for the remaining six days of Sukkot.

On all other holidays, when the festival offerings were accompanied by a wine libation, there was no celebration. So why, when it came time to pour water on the altar, was there a sudden burst of excitement?

Wine represents spirituality, allowing a person to rise above their inhibitions and experience the esoteric. Water, however, remains down to earth. Or, to put it differently, wine represents the elite and water represents the unnoteworthy. And that’s what was being celebrated–the simplicity of water.

The message of Sukkot is one of inclusivity (just as the sukkah itself can house any Jew, regardless of stature). Everyone can and should be a part of what this holiday has to offer; a person’s communal standing is irrelevant.

That is certainly something worth celebrating.

Wishing you the most joyous and inclusive Sukkot,

Kiddush Sponsor

This Kiddushes for Sukkos are being sponsored by the Alter Family in Memory of Poppy Milton Alter. They are also being sponsored by the Eilfort family in honor of the birthday of Emet Klipper (who is visiting with his mom and sister for the holiday)!

Haftarah for Sukkos

Day One:

Zachariah 14:1-21.

The prophet Zachariah prophesies about the world transformation that will occur in the end of days, when “the L-rd shall become King over all the earth; on that day shall the L-rd be one, and His name one.”

But first he describes a great war that will center around Jerusalem immediately before the ultimate Redemption. G‑d will gather the nations for war, and He will do battle with them, by visiting various diseases and ailments upon them. Zachariah then notes that those of the nations who will survive this cataclysmic war will be required to go to  Jerusalem every year on the holiday of Sukkot to pay homage to  G‑d.

Day Two:

I Kings 8:2-21.

Today's haftorah describes the dedication of Solomon's Temple, which occurred during the holiday of  Sukkot. (The celebration of the completion of the Holy Temple began a few days earlier, on the 8th of Tishrei.)

The construction of the Holy Temple was completed. King Solomon assembled the leaders and elders of the tribes to Jerusalem, and amidst great fanfare the Levites transported the Ark from its temporary location in the City of David and installed it in the Holy of Holies chamber in the Holy Temple. Immediately, G‑d's presence appeared in the Temple, in the form of a smoky cloud.

King Solomon then blessed G‑d. He recalled the history of the sanctuary, how his father, King David, had wanted to build it—but was told by G‑d that it would be his son who would accomplish this feat. "And the L-rd has established His word that He spoke, and I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the L-rd spoke, and have built a house for the name of the L-rd, the G‑d of Israel. And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein (is) the covenant of the Lord, which He made with our fathers, when He brought them out of the land of Egypt."

Sponsoring a Kiddush is a great way to feel part of the Chabad at La Costa family!

FUNDRAISING & VOLUNTEERING
Giving & Helping Opportunities

2. Venmo @Nechama-Eilfort

3. Cashapp $nechamae

4. Zelle (Bank of America)  [email protected]

5. Personal credit card    chabadatlacosta.com/donate

6. Join our Legacy Circle - see below

Bikur Cholim of SD Volunteers Needed!

There are a number of patients at UCSD La Jolla that have come from Israel to receive transplants here. They need our help!

Bikur Cholim of S Diego is a community organization helping the sick with care packages, visitation, driving spouses to and from the hospital, etc.

If you are able to give a few hours of your time, it will make another person's day that much better!

To get involved, sign up at www.BikurCholimSD.com

Volunteering

Our Soup and Challah Project has been going strong for three years! It was sponsored by Channah Hale and now carried on in her memory.

We are at the point that we need NEW volunteers to drive and deliver food packages around the area.

Please consider making this a part of your Friday routine. Volunteers pick up a few containers of soup and bags of challah at 3:00pm and delivering them to the door of the recipients. Volunteers also get soup and challah!
