Chabad Weekly Update
Celebrate with Us THIS Shabbos! We will be having a double celebration this Shabbos as both Rabbi Yosef Eilfort and Rabbi Baruch DuBrow will each be called to the Torah in preparation for their upcoming weddings! This singular event is called an “Ufruf” (calling up) in Yiddish. To symbolize our prayer for a new and sweet life they are embarking upon, the congregation throw candies at the groom. Please add to the Simcha by coming this Sunday and help us pelt our grooms with many sweets! Following services there will be a complete Kiddush luncheon to which everyone is invited. Building Update Our kitchen equipment has been delivered and will be installed beginning this coming week. Thanks to the generosity of the Joseph, Brunelle, and Alter Families we will have a fabulously appointed commercial-grade kitchen! Those who have been to our shul know very well how great the food has been over the years. The miracles wrought by our Kiddush team, led by Naomi Alter, has been accomplished despite the kitchen. Just imagine what they will be able to produce in a properly outfitted kitchen. Come on by and get a look for yourself. Friday Night Services @ 4:30pm Please note that Friday afternoon/evening services begin at 4:30pm. Please join us in this brief but inspiring service that helps us usher in the holy Shabbat! Getting Closer by the Day THANKS to Our Generous Donors! We are still about $60,000 short of what we need to pay for all of the items remaining to achieve occupancy. Since we started this ‘final stretch’ appeal more than $90,000 has been donated! If you can help us achieve this final amount it will be a great blessing for you and our community. Please see list of remaining dedications found below. A couple of wonderful additional ideas came up at our Open House. We are looking to add benches in the Breezeway, a decorative fountain in front, and a Mural on the inside of our Dome. JLI Course titled, “How Happiness Thinks” Continues Please join Rabbi Eilfort in enjoying our new JLI series, “How Happiness Thinks,” which meets each Tuesday at 7pm. It is an outstanding series that will help participants how to adjust their perspective in ways that will help them achieve a higher HQ (Happiness Quotient). If interested in further information respond to this message, and remember, BE HAPPY! HebrewSchoolGets Facelift A LOT is happening at our Hebrew School! So far this year our students have learned about the holidays, gone “Sukkah Hopping” all over the neighborhood, and have gotten off to a fantastic start with our Alef Champ reading system. But that is only the beginning… We have invested in a new curriculum called “Build a Jewish Home,” and so far the reviews are outstanding. Morah Muka has continued with her Jewish History Power Points that keep the students riveted during her lessons. Our new teachers Rabbi Efraim and Rabbi Menachem have hit if off with the students and will add a ton of enthusiasm. We are initiating numerous innovative ideas; like extra tutoring on the phone to achieve Hebrew reading proficiency for all of our students, and have made available a Hebrew writing course, to insure that our students not only learn a lot, but that they have a positive experience doing so. Hebrew School takes place on Sundays at our storefront location. Please contact Hebrew School Director Morah Nechama for further info or to enroll your child/ren. [email protected]. Mom & Tot Shabbat Chabad at La Costa offers a September to June monthly Mom & Tot program for children birth to 5 years old. If you are looking for a place to meet other mothers with children the same age as yours, in the Encinitas & Carlsbad areas, then join us for Challah baking, music and movement, art and more! This class is complimentary! RSVP to Nechama 760 612 9787. Everyone is invited and encouraged to join us for a beautiful weekly gathering! If you have not sponsored a Kiddush for a while, or love the feeling of sharing this tremendous gift with our wonderful congregation, please contact Naomi at 760-436-3687. Weekly Class Schedule Daily – Code of Jewish Law with Rabbi E – Following Minyan Shabbat: After Kiddush – Women’s Issues with the Rebbetzin Monday: JLIteens - Why I Love Israel - 7-8:30pm. Tuesday: JLI: How Happiness Thinks – 7-9pm. Wednesday: Torah Portion of the Week – 7:30pm. Special Wishes MAZEL TOV to the Eilfort and DuBrow families upon the impending weddings of Yossi and Baruch! We remember the Mittler Rebbe, Rabbi DovBer of Lubavitch on his Yarzeit. ### Shul Etiquette Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family. At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul. It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like. Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services. We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). We look forward to seeing you here! Minyan Our daily Minyan has been a tremendous source of good will for our community. Several people have been able to utilize the Minyan in order to say Kaddish for a loved one. Others have become accustomed to the great Mitzvah of davening with a Minyan because there is one readily available. Beginning this week, a couple of our regulars will be out of town for the next several weeks. We therefore need a few additional commitments so that the Minyan doesn’t slow down, G-d forbid. We are asking those who are able to make a commitment to the Minyan to please do so now. Some people are counting on our Minyan to be able to recite Kaddish for their loved ones. This is tremendously important. Please commit to a day or two per week (at the very least). People who have joined the Minyan have universally reported that they find the experience uplifting and have described it as a great way to start the day. Please respond to this message if you are able to help us in this regard. Learn the Code of Jewish Law with Rabbi Eilfort A daily class in practical Jewish Law is held immediately following the Minyan in our storefront location taught by Rabbi Eilfort. Using the Code of Jewish Law, known in Hebrew as the Shulchan Aruch, participants are able to discuss the laws while learning about the ongoing opportunities one has to serve the Almighty on a moment-by-moment basis. The class begins at about 8:50am and lasts for about 20 minutes. There is no charge to attend. Cell Phones & Chatting During Services Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation. Chabad Weekly Update
Volunteers Needed THIS Sunday Thanks to the tireless efforts and generosity of Brenda Joseph, her brother Meir Brunelle, the Alter Family, and many others, we are ready to begin upgrading our kitchen. Beautiful new kitchen equipment will begin to be delivered this week! We are therefore seeking volunteers to help us prepare the kitchen on Sunday at 10am for approximately two to three hours. We will also be creating a library and need help in this regard. If you are able to help a bit please respond to this message. Thank you! Emergency Update We extend our most sincere appreciation to all of those who responded so quickly to the emergency appeal made last weekend. About $3,000 was donated and an additional $3000 was made available as a loan for the immediate burial needs of Hanna Royzen. In addition, the Court has granted us official standing so finally we can make the requisite arrangements and get the body released. In the meantime we are trying to figure out exactly how much will be needed to fulfill this Mitzvah. Thus far we have been quoted $8,100 for the burial plot, opening/closing the grave, and the liner of the grave. This does not include mortuary services, a headstone, Shmira services, charges of the Coroner, or attorney’s fees. We were granted access to Hanna's checking and savings account as of Friday afternoon, however the accounts hold less than $1000 combined. In other words, we still need more help! Now that permission has finally been granted we must get Hanna buried forthwith. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! Seeing to the needs of the deceased is called “Chesed shel Emes,” THE true kindness, and supersedes other Mitzvot because the deceased is totally helpless but completely reliant on others. For those who are willing to participate in this powerful Mitzvah you can donate via our secure website, or by cash, check, or credit card. Please respond to this message informing us that you will help and how much you can give. Time is of the essence as we are trying to have Hanna’s remains removed by Monday or Tuesday at the latest, in which case we will need to have everything in place. Further information about her funeral will be shared when available. G-d bless you for your generosity! Friday Night Services @ 4:30pm Please note that Friday afternoon/evening services begin at 4:30pm. Please join us in this brief but inspiring service that helps us usher in the holy Shabbat! Volume 16 Number 5, 7th of Cheshvan 5775, October 31 '14
Please excuse the format of the update. We are having some technical difficulties.
Blessed is the True Judge
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of the Chairman of our Building Committee, Michael (Misha) Galperin. Misha headed our building campaign since its inception. He worked tirelessly and gave generously to our project, and without his input we would not have as beautiful a building to enjoy, nor would the project be completed.
We extend our most sincere condolences to Misha’s wife and partner Beverly, his sister Nataly, and to his entire family. The family has asked that donations be made to the shul’s Building Fund, Misha’s love and legacy, in his memory.
Misha, you will be missed, but never forgotten.
Those who would like to do the tremendous Mitzvah of Nichum Availim (comforting the mourner) may visit Beverly and Nataly at their home; 1672 Gil Way, Vista, 92084.
Minyan NEEDED- Daily services are taking place at the shul in Misha’s honor. Each morning we begin at 8am and each evening at 5:45pm. YOUR participation is needed. Please make a commitment to the Minyan and PLEASE let us know by responding to this message as soon as possible.
Rabbi and Rebbetzin Going to Israel for a Week
Please note that the Rabbi and Rebbetzin will be out of town until November 11th. This update is meant to cover the next two weeks. In an emergency please call Rabbi Baruch at 310-661-6092.

Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going.
Minyan
Our daily Minyan has been a tremendous source of good will for our community.
Learn the Code of Jewish Law with Rabbi Eilfort
A daily class in practical Jewish Law is held immediately following the Minyan in our storefront location taught by Rabbi Eilfort.
Cell Phones & Chatting During Services
Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation.
