Dear Friends (Shul family),

We are in historic times. American and Israeli politics are very much a ‘rough and tumble’ proposition these days. I am asking, from the bottom of my heart, to PLEASE KEEP POLITICS out of our beautiful shul, especially on Shabbos.

Please – no provocative statements or garments.

Our shul is a sanctuary that embraces and seeks to unite all Jews.

Everyone is welcome here.

While we don't agree on all issues, we seek to create an open environment of Torah study, prayer and worship.  We seek to spread light in an era of darkness.

Anything that disrupts our environment or causes discomfort to our members is discouraged.  We are a small group and need to stay united.

We are a community with wide-ranging political views.

Therefore, we kindly ask you to REFRAIN FROM WEARING ANY POLITICAL REGALIA (from any viewpoint) as we have heard concerns from some of our members.

The unity of our community is paramount.  Providing a sanctuary for our members to pray with feeling and dedication and without distraction outweighs every other consideration.

AKA: Is G-d a Democrat or Republican?

The epicenter of any synagogue is obviously the sanctuary. It is the focal point. It is the reason the building exists. It may not be the only thing that attracts and serves the congregation, but it is the genesis of everything that occurs on campus. This is true regardless of the philosophy of the given synagogue.

The synagogue is primarily meant to be a place where the community congregates to jointly communicate with the Almighty. We ask our G-d for our personal and communal needs, spiritual and physical.

There are wonderful ‘fringe benefits’ of coming to the synagogue; most profoundly, the coalescing of a community with shared beliefs, moral and ethical codes, and cultural influences. Indeed, the synagogue serves as the primary location of Jewish community building.

The United States, called by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, of blessed memory, the nation of kindness, recognizes the critical role played by the synagogue and therefore designated it as a non-profit organization, which means that donations made to support the synagogue are tax-deductible. This is very different from the designation of political organizations, where the money donated is not tax-deductible.

This distinction is both telling and critically important.

If Judaism brings us together, politics, by its very nature, is extremely divisive. Allow me to illustrate my point.

Presumably everybody wants to decrease poverty. However, there are sharp disagreements on how best to eradicate it. Some will say if someone is hungry, “give him a fish,” while others will say, “teach him how to fish.” In both cases the donor wants to alleviate the hunger of the recipient, they just have different philosophies of how to achieve their laudable goal.

These sharp differences of opinions can bring out less-than-praiseworthy behaviors, as these debates sometimes devolve into name-calling and vilifying one’s antagonist. That is not to say that political discussions and debates are not worthwhile, in fact they are critical to a healthy democracy. But, like everything else, there is a time and place for them.

The appropriate time for political debate or even political discourse is NOT in the sanctuary of one’s local synagogue, and certainly not during services. Too many people have equated their personal political outlook as being synonymous with morality. Because someone may disagree with their analysis or ideas, they call the person all sorts of horrid names and accuse the person of all sorts of terrible motives, like racism, homophobia, lack of patriotism etc. They have made their politics into their religion, and this is harmful.

Is G-d a Democrat or a Republican? Yes. There are philosophical elements that are foundational to both the Democratic and Republican Parties, which come directly from the Torah. This country is about evenly split between the ‘liberal’ and the ‘conservative’ outlook. What this means is that when politics are discussed, from the Bima for example, about half of those in attendance feel alienated.

Does anyone come to the synagogue to learn what his/her political philosophy should be? I would bet that not a single person comes to shul to be taught about politics. As an aside, I find it ironic that those who profess to be the most tolerant are often times the most judgmental and intolerant of dissenting opinions. 

That is why you will not experience a political sermon in a Chabad synagogue. The Rebbe emphasized time and again what our job is (and what it isn’t). Our job is not to teach politics, even if we mean well. Our job is to build bridges with our fellow Jews, to help nurture the latent holiness in every member of our people. We don’t guilt trip. Ever. Positive reinforcement is the order of the day.

In the sanctuary, when engaging in conversation with others, we should be emphasizing our commonalities and encouraging devotion to G-d, to the Jewish people, to the Land of Israel, and to the Torah of Israel. How many of our people need to be turned off to Judaism before we learn this lesson?! In this case intent does not matter, only the outcome. Did the conversation bring the other person closer to Judaism? If yes, it was worthwhile. If not...

It is time we take back our sanctuaries making them into actual sanctuaries! A place of community-building, a place where our beautiful Jewish family can come together in fellowship and love.

‘DECODING THE TALMUD’ LESSON FIVE

How the sages shaped its structure and substance.
Meet the pivotal sages in the Talmud’s story—from Rav and Shmuel’s first academies to Rav Ashi and Ravina’s final text—and see how they wove in stories as well as ethical and philosophical teachings.

Lesson One covered an overview of the various component parts of the Talmud, an explanation of the Jewish fixation on studying law, the differences between secular law and Jewish law (known as Halachah), and an analysis of how the act of studying Torah, and particularly Talmud, binds created beings with their Creator in the most profound way possible.

Lesson Two covered the Mishnah, the earliest part of the Talmud, which is comprised of six ‘orders’, and was compiled by the great Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi. We learned why he committed the teachings of the ‘Oral Torah’ to writing, what his gargantuan task accomplished, and why we are taught that the power of Mishnah study uplifts our souls and our surroundings. All of this and more will be covered.

Lesson Three, will commence on Tuesday from 7pm – 8:30pm, and cover the Gemarah. The Gemarah is the second part of the Talmud (the first/earliest part is the Mishnah), and is an in-depth analysis of the Mishnah. It represents how the Sages studied, debated, and ultimately understood the concise laws found in the Mishnah. In other words, it is a record of the discussions undertaken by the Sages. It is a unique work in history where the student is given insight into the thinking of the Sages. In this case, we learn the minds of our Sages from fifteen to twenty CENTURIES ago!

Lesson Four, will commence on Tuesday from 7pm – 8:30pm, and cover the Rabbis who put together the Gemarah, and delve into how they actually went about achieving their monumental task. Historical context will also be explained.

Lesson Five, titled, “How the Talmud Thinks,” will commence on Tuesday from 7pm – 8:30pm, and cover the novel mental approach and skill sets necessary for Talmudic study. For instance, one must learn to ‘halt kup’ (Yiddish for being able to remember the premises of a debate even while the Gemarah meanders among and through different subjects). We will further examine the different approaches of the Jerusalem and Babylonian Talmud and come to understand that progressing through the process of learning a Sugya (section of the Talmud) is likened to making one’s way through a dark tunnel until he/she comes to the light at the end. The process of learning the various opinions sharpens one’s understanding of the subject matter. This is going to be very powerful stuff!

We started a curriculum where we will go through all of the Alef Bet and learn about something that we are grateful for, starting with the letter of the week. 
The first week was א אור . Alef for Ohr- light. And we made lanterns. 
The second week was ב בית. Bet for Bayit- house and we made Birchat Habayit   to hang in our homes. 
Then we learned about Geshem- rain and made rain in a bottle! 
We talked about Dibbur for daled - Language.
We are up to Hey for Horim - Parents. We made cards for out Ema and Abba.
Vav focused on infants - Valad and how we have grown.
Chanukah is here!
Zayin for Zemer - music/song. We sang Karaoke
Chet for Chaver - Friend. We skateboarded with Yaakov.
Tet for Taam - Taste and Reason. We learned the Brachot for food.
Yud for Yom Tov - Holiday and Yad - Hand

Who Am I to Judge?

The pain of our people is immeasurable. The Jewish people have been victimized throughout history, and it is my belief that this victimization has left a mark. Perhaps it has affected our DNA? It has certainly affected our national consciousness. No nation on earth is more keenly aware of human suffering than ours. No people on G-d’s green earth is more devoted to alleviating the suffering of human beings. This makes me very proud.

On the other hand, we do not suffer from ‘Perpetual Victimhood Mentality,’ which is why our people are such incredible overachievers. We are creative, industrious, smart, wise, all while being empathetic and sympathetic to those around us who need help. We are doers, inspired by Judaism, which is the ultimate in action-based approaches to life. Judaism has always and will always place a premium on action. We are compelled to proactively intervene and make the world a better place through our engagement.

When we stop to consider what our brothers and sisters in Israel experienced on October 7^th, and during the time since then, it is a wonder that they can function at all. We have the cruelest of enemies who constantly calculate how to increase our pain, physical, emotional, and spiritual. The anti-Semitism is so deeply entrenched in their makeup that it defines their very existence. They pursue their anti-Semitic goals even to their own destruction.

The ’civilized’ world demands Israel make concessions to the savages, that Israel engage in ‘diplomacy’ to bring peace. It is so ironic that those who seek peace are the ones blamed for not doing enough to achieve peace, all while the enemies teach their children to hate Jews from the moment they are born. The academics justify the brutes’ blood-thirsty aims by blaming Israel and the Jews for every ill in the haters’ lives. Perhaps they had diaper rash as a baby? The governments that are supposed to represent their best interests enrich themselves and overflow with corruption. No where, in the Middle East, do non-Jews enjoy even basic civil rights, except in Israel. It’s all Israel’s fault for having a successful, democratic Jewish state.

Didn’t you know? Jews are not supposed to be able to defend ourselves or have a Jewish state?

And therefore, the world howls ‘ceasefire’ after Israel got the upper hand and started to bring the much-deserved destruction to those who had inflicted such agony on innocent babies, women, and men, young and old. The legacy news media continues to feed the false narrative of Palestinian victimhood at the hands of Israel, for their own nefarious reasons. Are they getting paid off? Or maybe they suffer from such profound moral confusion that they truly cannot discern who is the victim and who is the guilty party in this conflict? Or maybe they have been threatened and are afraid? What is certain is that they have debased themselves in their obscene duplicity, hypocrisy, and downright calumny!

This is not the first time that we have seen this evil. It has happened in every single conflict Israel has had inflicted upon her since her founding in 1948, and really, well before that too. The Jewish people and the Jewish state are accused of doing precisely what the anti-Semites actually do to us. The enemy knows that the world will react in the way it does. It is precisely this reaction that incentivizes the enemy to refuse peace and seek Israel’s utter destruction, G-d forbid. 

Sadly, many of our brothers and sisters have come to believe the false narrative and lies. They fail to learn from history or about history. They are blinded, perhaps by their overwhelming desire for peace, “at any cost.” Maybe they are blinded to some inner guilt. It’s hard to watch infinite levels of Jewish success in such proximity to complete failure. Incidentally, Jewish control of Israel is the least imperialistic/colonial project in all of history. Yet, that is precisely what it is being defined as in the ‘holy’ halls of academia and the UN.

Just because the lies have been promulgated doesn’t mean that we should buy into them! When darkness fills a room there is a tried-and-true method of transforming it, of dissipating it. And that is bringing light. The light of truth disperses the lies and false narratives.

Speaking the truth may not be sufficient. Our enemies are screaming very loudly. Have you heard of their anger/hate-driven rallies on university campuses? They have their catchy rhymes and their powerful bullhorns to drown out dissenting voices. They scream and threaten universities attempting to have them shut down pro-Israel speakers, and despicably, the universities cave in to the threats. This is due to their lack of moral courage and/or laziness. 

Taken together, this well-financed and organized movement of anti-Semitism can be intimidating. Ironically, it is starting to seem that some of the financing for the anti-Israel movement is coming from the American taxpayer (oh, how I pray that it is not so!) It can scare people into keeping their heads down and hiding themselves and their opinions. Parents sending their precious children to the poisoned schools certainly counsel their kids to keep quiet and just focus on their studies. Well, the anti-Semites have infiltrated the curriculum as well with their jaundiced and false ‘ethnic studies’ requirements.

We are on defense, all of the time, it seems.

I have been thinking a lot about this for a long time, well before October 7^th, 2023.

We must be proactive if we are going to win this existential war. We must take the proverbial fight to the enemy, and we must fight to win. We must fight this war on many levels, from the classrooms where the lies are first taught to the quads of the universities, to the streets of America, and to the battlefields of the Middle East.

We cannot afford to be reactive anymore. We need a full-court press to win!  Half-measures are not enough. More committees and commissions will not suffice. This issue is urgent. We must ACT now! Full-throated, unapologetic, TRUTH is what we need! And, if necessary, force, in protecting ourselves.

I cannot and will not judge the victims of October 7^th, even those who feel Israel should release hundreds and thousands of murderers from jail to save the poor hostages, alive and dead. The pain of their families is immeasurable. The pain of our nation is immeasurable.

My concern is that these releases incentivize further hostage taking and embolden our enemies. It certainly seems to give them ‘political’ victories. I must wonder if there is another way to gain their release.

Let us resolve not to judge each other, but rather to foster unity and brotherhood between us. We must stand strongly behind Israel, giving her whatever support, financial, moral, and spiritual, that we can muster.

We must always remember who the villains are and focus on their defeat. We cannot afford any more in-fighting. We cannot allow ourselves to become distracted by constantly searching for failures, real and imagined.

No. We must focus on victory and take the necessary steps to reach it, bending all of the power of our minds and hands to achieve total victory! Let us not settle for less.

Shabbos Parshas Terumah Haftorah

I Kings 5:26-6:13.

This week's haftorah describes the construction of the Holy Temple under the direction of King Solomon, echoing this week's Torah portion which discusses the construction of the Desert Tabernacle.

The  haftorah discusses the manpower — both Jewish and non-Jewish — that Solomon recruited for the building of the Holy Temple. Also discussed are the hewing and transportation of the stone, the laying of the foundation, as well as the dimensions of the Holy Temple, its components and materials.

The haftorah ends with G‑d's word to King Solomon: "This house which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, and execute My ordinances, and keep all My commandments to walk in them; then will I establish My word with you, which I spoke to David your father. And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people, Israel."

Parshat Shekalim Haftorah

In connection with the holidays of Purim and Passover, our sages instituted that four special readings be read from the  Torah on four different Shabbatot in addition to the regular Torah portions. When the special Parshat Shekalim is read, as is the case this week, we read a special haftorah instead of the above one.

II Kings 11:17-12:17.

The Parshat Shekalim Torah reading discusses the annual obligation for every Jew to give half a shekel to the Temple coffers. The haftorah discusses the efforts of King Jehoash (9th century BCE) to earmark these communal funds for the upkeep of the first Holy Temple.

Background for this haftorah: Because of an alliance with the Northern Kingdom of Israel, idol worship had become rampant in the erstwhile righteous Davidic dynasty-controlled Southern Kingdom. When the king of the Southern Kingdom, Ahaziah, was killed, his mother Athaliah murdered the remainder of the royal family and seized the throne. During her brief reign, she actively promoted idolatry. Unbeknownst to her, one of Ahaziah's sons, a small baby, was hidden and survived. When he became seven years of age, Jehoiada the High Priest led a successful revolt against Athaliah, and installed the child king, Jehoash, as the new King of Judea.

The haftorah begins with the new king renewing the people's covenant with  G‑d. They destroyed all the pagan altars and statues and appointed officers to oversee the Holy Temple. Jehoash then instructed the priests regarding all the funds that were donated to the Temple. According to his plan, all the funds would be appropriated by the priests. In return, the priests would pay for the regular maintenance of the Temple. In the 23rd year of Jehoash's reign, the priests neglected to properly maintain the Temple. Jehoash then ordered that all monies should be placed in a special box that was placed near the Temple altar, and these funds were given directly to the workers and craftsmen who maintained the Temple.

If one wants his body to be handled with the respect and care mandated by Jewish Law or if one wants the funeral service conducted according to Jewish Law, it must be arranged in advance. Memorial Plaques & Tree of Life Plaques Available

Our beautiful Memorial Boards have been installed. We specifically designed our custom-built bookcases to ‘frame’ each of the boards. The first Memorial Board was dedicated by the Brunelle Family, the second Board was dedicated by the Alter Family, and the new Board has been dedicated by Miriam Reisman in memory of her husband, Harold.

We are currently offering Memorial Plaques to those who wish to perpetually honor the memory of a loved one in a most dignified and permanent manner. Those who dedicate Memorial Plaques will also receive yearly reminders of the Yarzeit in the newsletter and in the calendar and the light on the Board will be illuminated each year on the Yarzeit. The donation is only $500 per Memorial Board plaque.

We also have a gorgeous Tree of Life dedicated by the Lieberman Family that has been ‘growing. The purpose of the plaques on the Tree of Life is to commemorate joyous occasions (like Bar/Bat Mitzvah, anniversaries, special birthdays, weddings etc.). The donation is $180 for a leaf on the Tree of Life.

Shabbat Services with Meaning & Joy

Every Saturday we get together to celebrate the holy Shabbat in song and prayer. Our services are both traditional and user-friendly, as we fully recognize that not everyone has experience Davening (praying) in a traditional setting. What those who have joined have found is that the atmosphere in our synagogue is conducive to meaningful meditation. A knowledge of Hebrew is not necessary to participate. In fact, the only thing that is needed is the desire to learn and to connect to the Almighty. It is an enriching experience not to be missed! Shabbat services begin at 10am and conclude at approximately 12:30pm and are followed by a wonderful community lunch. There is no cost to attend and reservations are not needed.

Shul Etiquette

Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family.

At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul.

It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like.

Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services.

We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). Cell Phones & Chatting During Services

Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation.

Public Service Announcement – Let’s Work TOGETHER to Maintain OUR Shul

We have a beautiful shul. Everyone agrees. It is not easy to maintain everything, but we work hard to keep things clean and in good working order. We need your help.

Our sanctuary is graced with gorgeous, custom made, stained glass windows. These windows MUST be kept in pristine condition. Please respect the windows by only looking and never touching them. G-d forbid, they can easily be scratched if we are not careful. Also, please do not put ANY objects (cups, books, tissues etc.) on the window sills as it detracts from the windows.

Our custom-built furniture from Israel is as precious as it looks. People have put down cups (full and empty) on the partitions and the shelves. This is inappropriate. Children cannot sit on or climb on the furnishings – other than sitting in the pews as they were designed to be used. No exceptions.

Please put away your own Talis and prayer books, and replace the book racks when done using them. Please throw away your own garbage.

If we can all work together we will keep our shul beautiful!

‘Decoding The Talmud’ LESSON THREE – THE GEMARAH; HOW THE SAGES STUDIED, DEBATED, AND UNDERSTOOD THE MISHNAH

Lesson One covered an overview of the various component parts of the Talmud, an explanation of the Jewish fixation on studying law, the differences between secular law and Jewish law (known as Halachah), and an analysis of how the act of studying Torah, and particularly Talmud, binds created beings with their Creator in the most profound way possible.

Lesson Two covered the Mishnah, the earliest part of the Talmud, which is comprised of six ‘orders’, and was compiled by the great Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi. We learned why he committed the teachings of the ‘Oral Torah’ to writing, what his gargantuan task accomplished, and why we are taught that the power of Mishnah study uplifts our souls and our surroundings. All of this and more will be covered.

Lesson Three, will commence on Tuesday from 7pm – 8:30pm, and cover the Gemarah. The Gemarah is the second part of the Talmud (the first/earliest part is the Mishnah), and is an in-depth analysis of the Mishnah. It represents how the Sages studied, debated, and ultimately understood the concise laws found in the Mishnah. In other words, it is a record of the discussions undertaken by the Sages. It is a unique work in history where the student is given insight into the thinking of the Sages. In this case, we learn the minds of our Sages from fifteen to twenty CENTURIES ago!

We started a curriculum where we will go through all of the Alef Bet and learn about something that we are grateful for, starting with the letter of the week. 
The first week was א אור . Alef for Ohr- light. And we made lanterns. 
The second week was ב בית. Bet for Bayit- house and we made Birchat Habayit   to hang in our homes. 
Then we learned about Geshem- rain and made rain in a bottle! 
We talked about Dibbur for daled - Language.
We are up to Hey for Horim - Parents. We made cards for out Ema and Abba.
Vav focused on infants - Valad and how we have grown.
Chanukah is here!
Zayin for Zemer - music/song. We sang Karaoke
Chet for Chaver - Friend. We skateboarded with Yaakov.
Tet for Taam - Taste and Reason. We learned the Brachot for food.

Shabbos Parshas Yisro

Isaiah 6:1–13.

This week's haftorah discusses Isaiah’s vision of the Heavenly Chariot (the merkavah), a revelation that was experienced by all the Israelites when G‑d spoke the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai—an event recounted in this week’s Torah reading.

Isaiah perceives G‑d sitting on a throne surrounded by angels. Isaiah vividly describes the angels and their behavior (in anthropomorphic terms). During the course of this vision, Isaiah volunteers to be G‑d’s emissary to transmit His message to the Israelites. He is immediately given a depressing prophecy regarding the exile the nation will suffer as punishment for their many sins—and the Land of Israel will be left empty and desolate, though there will be left a “trunk” of the Jewish people that eventually will regrow.

Volunteering

Our Soup and Challah Project has been going on its FOURTH year! It was sponsored by Channah Hale and now carried on in her memory.

We are at the point that we need NEW volunteers to drive and deliver food packages around the area.

Please consider making this a part of your Friday routine. Volunteers pick up a few containers of soup and bags of challah at 3:00pm and delivering them to the door of the recipients. Volunteers also get soup and challah!

Enhanced Security

Our number one priority is to ensure the safety and security of our shul family. We have a robust security system in place. We have gone to the added expense of hiring a uniformed, armed guard, who is with us, watching over us, in addition to our internal security team.

The Foundation Project  - City Approved Plan

We are raising funds that will be used towards completing our basement. This project will include a TEEN LOUNGE, CLASSROOMS, a LIBRARY, OFFICES, STORAGE SPACE, BATHROOMS, and more. They do not leave a will, or even if they do it is not consistent with Jewish Law. If one wants his body to be handled with the respect and care mandated by Jewish Law or if one wants the funeral service conducted according to Jewish Law, it must be arranged in advance. Don’t leave these critical details to luck!

Memorial Plaques & Tree of Life Plaques Available

Our beautiful Memorial Boards have been installed. We specifically designed our custom-built bookcases to ‘frame’ each of the boards. The first Memorial Board was dedicated by the Brunelle Family, the second Board was dedicated by the Alter Family, and the new Board has been dedicated by Miriam Reisman in memory of her husband, Harold.

We are currently offering Memorial Plaques to those who wish to perpetually honor the memory of a loved one in a most dignified and permanent manner. Those who dedicate Memorial Plaques will also receive yearly reminders of the Yarzeit in the newsletter and in the calendar and the light on the Board will be illuminated each year on the Yarzeit. The donation is only $500 per Memorial Board plaque.

We also have a gorgeous Tree of Life dedicated by the Lieberman Family that has been ‘growing. The purpose of the plaques on the Tree of Life is to commemorate joyous occasions (like Bar/Bat Mitzvah, anniversaries, special birthdays, weddings etc.). The donation is $180 for a leaf on the Tree of Life.

If you need a Minyan to say Kaddish please give the office at least a few days’ notice. We are happy to provide this important service, but it takes time to arrange enough participants to assure the quorum is present. Please email   [email protected] your request.

Shabbat Services with Meaning & Joy

Every Saturday we get together to celebrate the holy Shabbat in song and prayer. Our services are both traditional and user-friendly, as we fully recognize that not everyone has experience Davening (praying) in a traditional setting. What those who have joined have found is that the atmosphere in our synagogue is conducive to meaningful meditation. A knowledge of Hebrew is not necessary to participate. In fact, the only thing that is needed is the desire to learn and to connect to the Almighty. It is an enriching experience not to be missed! Shabbat services begin at 10am and conclude at approximately 12:30pm and are followed by a wonderful community lunch. There is no cost to attend and reservations are not needed.

NOW is the time to join the family! Membership includes High Holiday seats and discounts on other programs and activities. However, the main reason to join is to demonstrate your commitment to the future of Judaism in our area and to our community.

Shul Etiquette

Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family.

At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul.

It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like.

Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services.

We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). Cell Phones & Chatting During Services

Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation.

PLEASE NOTE: The ONLY thing that may be flushed is toilet paper – NO EXCEPTIONS. This means tissue, baby wipes, paper towels, or any other product may NEVER be flushed, but instead must be disposed of in the provided trash receptacles.

Public Service Announcement – Let’s Work TOGETHER to Maintain OUR Shul

We have a beautiful shul. Everyone agrees. It is not easy to maintain everything, but we work hard to keep things clean and in good working order. We need your help.

Our sanctuary is graced with gorgeous, custom made, stained glass windows. These windows MUST be kept in pristine condition. Please respect the windows by only looking and never touching them. G-d forbid, they can easily be scratched if we are not careful. Also, please do not put ANY objects (cups, books, tissues etc.) on the window sills as it detracts from the windows.

Our custom-built furniture from Israel is as precious as it looks. People have put down cups (full and empty) on the partitions and the shelves. This is inappropriate. Children cannot sit on or climb on the furnishings – other than sitting in the pews as they were designed to be used. No exceptions.

Please put away your own Talis and prayer books, and replace the book racks when done using them. Please throw away your own garbage.

If we can all work together we will keep our shul beautiful!
