Blessed is the True Judge
We are sorry to announce the passing of a dear friend and member of our community, Arnold Tubis. May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem!
We will be visiting his gravesite Friday immediately following the unveiling ceremony for Gary Plavnick to say some prayers in his memory.
We will also be dedicating a memorial plaque in his honor. Anyone who would like to participate in this Mitzvah is welcome to make a donation here: www.ChabadatLaCosta.com/donate.
Minyan Needed at El Camino Memorial Cemetery
On Friday July 3rd at 11 AM at will be the stone unveiling ceremony for Gary Plavnick. A minyan is needed to be able to recite Kaddish. Please let Rabbi know that you can be there. El Camino Memorial Cemetery in Sorrento Valley (5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., S. Diego).
Three Weeks of Mourning Begin
Tammuz 17 is a fast day, devoted to mourning the breaching of Jerusalem's walls and the other tragic events that occurred on this day (see "Today in Jewish History") and repenting and rectifying their causes. We refrain from all food and drink from "dawn" (about an hour before sunrise, depending on location) until nightfall. Special prayers and Torah readings are added to the day's services.
"Three Weeks" Begin
The 17th of Tammuz also marks the beginning of The Three Weeks period of mourning which culminates on the 9th of Av, commemorating the conquest of Jerusalem, the destruction of the Holy Temple and the dispersion of the Jewish people.
Weddings and other joyful events are not held during this period; like mourners, we do not cut our hair, and various pleasurable activities are limited or proscribed. (Consult the Code of Jewish Law (Shulchan Aruch) or a qualified rabbi regarding specific proscriptions).
The Lubavitcher Rebbe urged that the Three Weeks should be a time of increased giving of charity and Torah study (in keeping with the verse (Isaiah 1:27), "Zion shall be redeemed by law, and her returnees by charity"), particularly the study of those portions of Torah that deal with the laws and the deeper significance of the Holy Temple.

NEW MEMBERSHIP YEAR ARRIVED JULY 1ST
Dear Community,
THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY FILLED OUT AND RETURNED THEIR MEMBERSHIP FORMS!
We have enjoyed a transformative year! Bigger and better things are on the horizon, please G-d. The Addy and Arthur Hale Educational level has been the driving story of the year. After a lot of blood, sweat, and tears we are in our new space and using it daily. It adds so much to our campus. While the demo progresses upstairs, we are even using it for Davening in the mornings.
But there is more going than just the building of our physical building. We are building a community, thanks to all of you.
We have hosted countless services, events, and classes on campus and off. Together we have brought meaning and joy to a lot of friends. Imagine, we have conducted events as varied as uplifting and inspirational High Holiday services and cookouts on the beach. We have hosted women’s events and our ever-popular men’s club. We have offered hundreds of religious counseling sessions. We have officiated at weddings, funerals, and everything in between.
Our preschool, Coastal Gan, has gone ‘gangbusters’! In fact, we are full and have a waiting list for next year, Baruch Hashem. Our Gan has a sterling reputation, and we are getting inquiries by families as far away as S. Diego.
These successes are due to our dedicated staff and amazing community.
Once a year we ask you to make a financial commitment specifically to the community. This is an opportunity to show your love and support to an institution that is here for you 24/7. Membership is our life’s blood. Without your financial support we cannot do what needs to be done. We are blessed with a selfless community that excels at acts of kindness.
Now is the time to make your commitment.
Please be so kind as to fill out the membership form online: www.chabadatlacosta.com/membership.
From the bottom of our hearts please accept our deep appreciation for your kindness and generosity!
Sincerely,
Rabbi and Rebbetzin Yeruchem & Nechama Eilfort
IT’S CALENDAR TIME!
We have already started working on our beautiful Jewish Art Calendar for the coming year! Many look forward to our Art Calendars that not only have gorgeous pictures, but also lots of educational materials about the Jewish holidays and observances (even holiday recipes). And what truly makes the Calendar ours is our customized dates. People dedicate their special dates, like birthdays, anniversaries, and/or the Yarzeit of loved ones. On top of all of that we also have important shul events.
In order to have your dates included please logon to www.chabadatlacosta.com/artcalendar. We ask for the modest donation of $18 per dedicated date, or up to 20 dates for $180.

NEW ART INSTALLATION UNDERWAY!
Our community has benefited tremendously due to the generosity of Addy and Arthur Hale, of blessed memory. We have commissioned a very talented artist, Kayla Freeman, to create a one-of-a-kind art piece that will honor those who have given so much to our community. She started work on Wednesday and will be here for the next week or two until the work is complete.

Sinai and Civics
The Jewish ethics that shaped America’s founding
In time for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this four-session course reflects on the Jewish ethics, ideas, and values that inspired and influenced America’s founders—and that still shape our government and society today.
Was it always self-evident that all people are “created equal”? What is the “pursuit of happiness”? What inspired America’s system of checks and balances? And looking ahead, what steps can we take to build a just and united future?
(No previous Jewish learning necessary.)
This course will satisfy the continuing education (CLE) requirements of lawyers and legal professionals.
