Chabad Weekly Update
Volunteers Needed THIS Sunday Thanks to the tireless efforts and generosity of Brenda Joseph, her brother Meir Brunelle, the Alter Family, and many others, we are ready to begin upgrading our kitchen. Beautiful new kitchen equipment will begin to be delivered this week! We are therefore seeking volunteers to help us prepare the kitchen on Sunday at 10am for approximately two to three hours. We will also be creating a library and need help in this regard. If you are able to help a bit please respond to this message. Thank you! Emergency Update We extend our most sincere appreciation to all of those who responded so quickly to the emergency appeal made last weekend. About $3,000 was donated and an additional $3000 was made available as a loan for the immediate burial needs of Hanna Royzen. In addition, the Court has granted us official standing so finally we can make the requisite arrangements and get the body released. In the meantime we are trying to figure out exactly how much will be needed to fulfill this Mitzvah. Thus far we have been quoted $8,100 for the burial plot, opening/closing the grave, and the liner of the grave. This does not include mortuary services, a headstone, Shmira services, charges of the Coroner, or attorney’s fees. We were granted access to Hanna's checking and savings account as of Friday afternoon, however the accounts hold less than $1000 combined. In other words, we still need more help! Now that permission has finally been granted we must get Hanna buried forthwith. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! Seeing to the needs of the deceased is called “Chesed shel Emes,” THE true kindness, and supersedes other Mitzvot because the deceased is totally helpless but completely reliant on others. For those who are willing to participate in this powerful Mitzvah you can donate via our secure website, or by cash, check, or credit card. Please respond to this message informing us that you will help and how much you can give. Time is of the essence as we are trying to have Hanna’s remains removed by Monday or Tuesday at the latest, in which case we will need to have everything in place. Further information about her funeral will be shared when available. G-d bless you for your generosity! Friday Night Services @ 4:30pm Please note that Friday afternoon/evening services begin at 4:30pm. Please join us in this brief but inspiring service that helps us usher in the holy Shabbat! "A Response to Terror" : article by Rabbi Eilfort (please follow link) Getting Closer by the Day THANKS to Our Generous Donors! We are still about $60,000 short of what we need to pay for all of the items remaining to achieve occupancy. Since we started this ‘final stretch’ appeal more than $90,000 has been donated! If you can help us achieve this final amount it will be a great blessing for you and our community. Please see list of remaining dedications found below. A couple of wonderful additional ideas came up at our Open House. We are looking to add benches in the Breezeway, a decorative fountain in front, and a Mural on the inside of our Dome. New JLI Course titled, “How Happiness Thinks” Continues Please join Rabbi Eilfort in enjoying our new JLI series, “How Happiness Thinks,” which meets each Tuesday at 7pm. It is an outstanding series that will help participants how to adjust their perspective in ways that will help them achieve a higher HQ (Happiness Quotient). If interested in further information respond to this message, and remember, BE HAPPY! Hebrew School Gets Facelift A LOT is happening at our Hebrew School! So far this year our students have learned about the holidays, gone “Sukkah Hopping” all over the neighborhood, and have gotten off to a fantastic start with our Alef Champ reading system. But that is only the beginning… We have invested in a new curriculum called “Build a Jewish Home,” and so far the reviews are outstanding. Morah Muka has continued with her Jewish History Power Points that keep the students riveted during her lessons. Our new teachers Rabbi Efraim and Rabbi Menachem have hit if off with the students and will add a ton of enthusiasm. We are initiating numerous innovative ideas; like extra tutoring on the phone to achieve Hebrew reading proficiency for all of our students, and have made available a Hebrew writing course, to insure that our students not only learn a lot, but that they have a positive experience doing so. Hebrew School takes place on Sundays at our storefront location. Please contact Hebrew School Director Morah Nechama for further info or to enroll your child/ren. [email protected]. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family. At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul. It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like. Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services. We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). We look forward to seeing you here! Minyan Our daily Minyan has been a tremendous source of good will for our community. Several people have been able to utilize the Minyan in order to say Kaddish for a loved one. Others have become accustomed to the great Mitzvah of davening with a Minyan because there is one readily available. Beginning this week, a couple of our regulars will be out of town for the next several weeks. We therefore need a few additional commitments so that the Minyan doesn’t slow down, G-d forbid. We are asking those who are able to make a commitment to the Minyan to please do so now. Some people are counting on our Minyan to be able to recite Kaddish for their loved ones. This is tremendously important. Please commit to a day or two per week (at the very least). People who have joined the Minyan have universally reported that they find the experience uplifting and have described it as a great way to start the day. Please respond to this message if you are able to help us in this regard. Learn the Code of Jewish Law with Rabbi Eilfort A daily class in practical Jewish Law is held immediately following the Minyan in our storefront location taught by Rabbi Eilfort. Using the Code of Jewish Law, known in Hebrew as the Shulchan Aruch, participants are able to discuss the laws while learning about the ongoing opportunities one has to serve the Almighty on a moment-by-moment basis. The class begins at about 8:50am and lasts for about 20 minutes. There is no charge to attend. Cell Phones & Chatting During Services Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation.
