Chabad Weekly Update - Special Edition
This week’s Torah portion includes the reading of the most important passages of the entire Torah (even though every letter of the Torah is absolutely essential, there are sections that are indisputably foundational), the 10 Commandments. It is a Mitzvah for every single Jewish man, woman, and child to listen to the timeless wisdom encapsulated in this portion that has literally influenced the entire world. Services begin at 10am and the Torah reading begins at about 11am. DON’T MISS IT!
This week’s Kiddush is being sponsored by the Alter Family in honor of family Yahrzeits this month. Everyone is invited to join us for this beautiful weekly gathering! Kiddush Sponsorship If you have not sponsored a Kiddush for a while and/or if you have a birthday, anniversary, or perhaps a Yahrzeit you wish to mark, please respond to this message. Hold the Date! Open House Scheduled
Heroes Honored Sunday, August 28th from 12 – 3pm we will be hosting our annual Open House celebration! Highlights of the event will include the Shofar Factory (a live demonstration of how to make a Shofar and a chance to actually make one yourself!), Clowns, Face-Painting, Barbecue Lunch (no charge!), Bounce House, Arts-n-Crafts, Challah Baking, a Certified Scribe (Sofer) will be on premises to check Mezuzos and Tefilin or to you provide any of your Judaica needs, and so much more! New additions: Do you have someone you love that you want to throw in the ‘hoosegow’ (for a very brief duration of time)? Now is your chance. US Territorial Marshals from the late 19th Century Old West will be on hand to apprehend, arrest, incarcerate, and free (on bail) your special loved one. Also, we will be turning our library into a Virtual Reality room. Not only that we have reserved World Famous Ventriloquist Extraordinaire Joe Gandelman who will be putting on a show! This year’s event will be particularly special as we will be honoring our local police and fire departments! We have heroes in our midst! While we are busy running from danger they run to it, so as to protect us. Unfortunately many these days take them for granted, or worse. We owe them our gratitude. And so this year we are dedicating our Open House festivities to them. All local police and firefighters and their families have been invited to join us. Those who would like to co-sponsor this event inquiries can be made by calling 760-943-8891 or sending an email to [email protected]. PLEASE BE SURE TO JOIN US AND PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS! Membership Time – Have YOU Responded? 6-23-16 Dear Friend & Supporter, We have had an exciting year here at your Jewish Center. So many programs – so many services, so many classes, so many parties, etc., but, and this is a big but, we have so much more to do! This is going to be a very big year. We are poised to offer more Jewish opportunities than ever before to you, our shul family. Now, on to the business at hand. Everything that we do/provide to the community costs us money. We know that you already know this, but we have a mortgage that costs money, the electricity costs, the phone costs, the Internet access costs, the books cost, the food costs, and the gas in my car costs money. Due to these costs (and many more like them) we need friends to partner with us so that we can accomplish all that needs to be accomplished. Not to put too fine a point on it, but we need YOU. YOUR support is our lifeblood. Of course we want more than just your money (“More than just my money?!,” you exclaim.). Yes, more than just your money. First of all we don’t want all of your money – just a small percentage actually. Secondly, we want your participation! That means you coming to all (or at least some) of the wonderful things mentioned above is also extremely important and demonstrates your support. With all of the above in mind PLEASE take a moment and fill out the Membership Form and Calendar Ad Form found on our website, www.chabadatlacosta.com, ASAP. Those simple documents help us know where we stand and where we should be going to help better serve you and your family’s needs. All joking aside, please make the commitment to become an official member this year. G-d bless you and your family with all manner of good, particularly good health, happiness, and success in all of your positive endeavors! Sincerely, Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort Special Wishes HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes go out to Ron Lewis, and all of those celebrating their birthdays this week! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY wishes go out to all of those celebrating their anniversaries this week! We remember Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, the Rebbe’s holy father, whose Yarzeit is this week. We remember Bernard Walden, and all of those who have a Yarzeit this week. May Fran Sekela, Roz Mintz and Mel Bridge be blessed with a full and complete recovery! ### Need a Minyan?
Memorial Plaques & Tree of Life Plaques Available Our beautiful Memorial Boards have been installed. We specifically designed our custom-built bookcases to ‘frame’ each of the boards. The first Memorial Board was dedicated by the Brunelle Family and the new Board was dedicated by the Alter Family. We are currently offering Memorial Plaques to those who wish to perpetually honor the memory of a loved one in a most dignified and permanent manner. Those who dedicate Memorial Plaques will also receive yearly reminders of the Yahrzeit and the light on the Board will be illuminated each year on the Yahrzeit.
We also have a gorgeous Tree of Life dedicated by the Lieberman Family that will shortly be going up. The purpose of the plaques on the Tree of Life is to commemorate joyous occasions (like Bar/Bat Mitzvah, anniversaries, special birthdays, weddings etc.).
The donation is only $360 per plaque for the Memorial Board or $180 for the Tree of Life. Those who wish to participate should send an email to [email protected], or call Rabbi Eilfort at 760-943-8891. Cell Phones & Chatting During Services
Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation. Shul Etiquette Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family. At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul. It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like. Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services. We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). We look forward to seeing you here! Please Patronize Our Sponsors Your Chabad Real Estate Agent & Mortgage Broker Jonathan Rozansky is a licensed realtor and mortgage professional.
