Chabad at La Costa Times
Shvat 5779 – January ‘19
THANK YOU for the Generous Support!
Our most sincere thanks go out to everyone who answered the call and helped us to pay off our mortgage and meet our end of year fundraising goal! Feast your eyes below on some of the new programming we are able to offer because of the generous support offered by this very special community.
NEW PROGRAM - Weekly Challah Baking on Thursdays @ Shul
Our team of Rebbetzins are inviting women from the community to join them on Thursday evenings at 6pm in the shul kitchen where they will be baking Challos. Those who would like to take home fresh-baked Challah will be asked to donate $5. Please contact Rebbetzin Nechama for further information at 760-943-8891.
Volunteer Appeal
We need additional volunteers to help with Kiddush preparation on Fridays. If you are willing and able to help with this rewarding volunteer opportunity please contact Rebbetzin Nechama at 760-943-8891.
Bat Mitzvah Club Begins January 15th
A Bat Mitzvah symbolizes the turning point in a Jewish girl's life- she enters her teen years and begins to explore her identity. The Bat Mitzvah Club emphasizes this important stage and regards it as a process of learning and discovery, rather than just an ordinary birthday celebration. Together, we will discover the power of Jewish woman through baking, crafts and trips.
Beginning January 15th. Tuesdays, bi-monthly, from 5:45-7pm.
For further information call Rebbetzin Muka at 760-809-2996.
Tu bShvat Seder
Ladies’ Garden Party
January 21st @ 7pm
You are invited to our Ladies' Garden Party in honor of Tu bShvat, The New Year for Trees. We will be revealing the mystical meanings of the Fruits of Israel and sharing Blessings with each other at our Annual Amen Party.
Monday, January 21, at 7:00pm $5 suggested donation. Please let us know you are coming by calling 760-943-8891.
C-Kids Tu bShvat Event
Tu bShvat is right around the corner, and there’s no better time for your kids to learn more about the Jewish New Year for Trees and respecting the world around us! We know it’s important to teach kids about caring for people and the world at a young age, and that’s why we are hosting a one-day program called Goodness Grows.
Every child in the program will learn about having a positive effect on the world, and they’ll use their creativity to paint a wooden leaf and mark it with a certain symbol or word. This mark is meant to represent what the child plans to do to make the world a better place!
Afterwards, everyone will roll clay, soil, and seeds into their very own seed bombs! They can take home their seed bombs, plant them in a “Goodness Garden”, and watch them grow and flourish. The best part of Goodness Grows will be when everyone comes to the front of the room, one-by-one, and places their painted leaves onto a large Tree of Giving. The branches of the tree will be filled with resolutions and ideas of how to affect the world positively. The Tree of Giving will be hung up for all to see!
Goodness Grows is on Sunday January 20 at our educational annex 7740 El Camino Real. Carlsbad, CA 92009. From 10-Noon.
Parents are encouraged to stay and participate with their children.
To get your child involved, sign up at JewishEncinitas.com/ckids or call Chaya at 786-543-8772
Looking forward to seeing you and your child there!

Crime & Consequence
New JLI Course
In Crime and Consequence, we explore 3000 years of Jewish wisdom concerning criminal convictions, sentencing, crime prevention, and rehabilitation. We challenge our thinking, pondering the application of Talmudic principles to real and complex, modern-day cases. We learn to discover and recover the humanity within criminals, we question practices that seem unethical and unfair, and we explore ways to prevent crime from ever taking place.
Crime and Consequence is for people who care deeply about humanity, are enraged at injustice, are fascinated by difficult-to-solve real-life scenarios, and are committed to seeing a system that is just and fair to all.
Register today for a somewhat devastating and infuriating but thoroughly astonishing experience! Significant discounts are available for early registration and multiple students signing up together.
Rabbi Eilfort will be teaching this class together with Gary Plavnick Esq., who has also served as a Judge Pro Tem.

The Beauty of Our Kiddush
Every week following services we enjoy a beautiful Kiddush luncheon together. The Kiddush does not create itself. Thank G-d, we have a dedicated Kiddush crew, led by Naomi Alter and including Channah Hale, Sheila Lebovitz, the Rebbetzin, and several others, who make our Kiddush into something beautiful and enjoyable. But it takes more than willing hands to make the food. It also takes generous souls to sponsor the food. Without a sponsor the cost must come out of our operating budget, which is stretched thin as it is.
If you have been a beneficiary of the Kiddush and haven’t sponsored it for a while please step forward now. Even if you have recently sponsored and kind find it in your heart to sponsor it again we need you. Kiddush sponsorship starts at $180. But if you want something more lavish with more variety you can add to that amount, and it is appreciated. It is also a very big blessing that you have facilitated ‘Oneg Shabbat’ (the enjoyment of Shabbos) for the entire congregation. Our Shabbat prayers describe the special blessings achieved by such generosity. Thank you and G-d bless!
