Dear Friends,
This week's Torah portion opens with the commandment to use pure olive oil to light the menorah in the Temple, first in the temporary Tabernacle in the desert, and later in the permanent structure in Jerusalem.
The oil is extracted by crushing the olive. A mere squeeze is not enough for the most perfectly clear oil. This is symbolic of the Jewish people, and our survival in the most precarious times. No one enjoys struggles and challenges, but the harder we are crushed, the stronger we become, and the stronger our faith grows.
And, as the Torah makes clear, the oil is brought to Moses, leader of the Jews. Because in order for our faith to remain steadfast and to grow, we must always have a Moses, a righteous person, to learn from and aspire to.
Every generation has its Moses, and we pray that we will very soon meet the Moses of our generation, with the coming of Moshiach, may it be today!
Shabbat shalom,

| We are Open for Services this Week – And there will be Soup & Challah
We are being extremely careful and are asking the following to anyone contemplating coming:
- If you have ANY symptoms of Covid please do not come.
- If you have been around anyone who has Covid please do not come.

We simply MUST FIND A WAY to coexist and remain a close and loving community.

Soup and Challah - YES - Soup & Challah This Week
We are always seeking additional volunteers to help deliver Soup and Challah. If you can help with this beautiful Mitzvah please respond to this message. Thank you and G-d bless!
We wanted to extend a very special thank you to Carrie Rossenfeld for her help every week!
We will still be offering Soup and Challah to those who request it. Sometimes we will need people to pick it up themselves from shul, depending on the volunteer drivers’ status. Our focus is now to have people join us at shul so we can enjoy Kiddush TOGETHER!
Our A Team is busy preparing Challahs for the community as this is being written (and THANK YOU to our amazing donors for making that happen!). However, we are facing a big challenge as we need angels to deliver the fruit of our ovens to our hungry constituents. If you are ready, willing, and able to assist please respond to this message or contact the Rebbetzin to volunteer ASAP. G-d bless you!
If you can help with deliveries, reach out to Kayla or Nechama.
Please note that all food is prepared and delivered using recommended safeguards.
Sponsors Appreciated (And Needed)
These are extraordinary times many people are reaching out for help and, Baruch Hashem / thank G-d, we are HERE to help! ‘We’ means YOU and US, TOGETHER. It is an amazing partnership that we have!
A very special thank you goes out to our “Super Sponsor” Channah Hale who has continuously stepped forward helping us to maintain this service!
We are extremely grateful to those who have reached out to help fund us, enabling us to serve others. Thank you to our amazing volunteer drivers - you can volunteer to deliver Soup and Challah!
Note About Sponsorships
You may have noticed that we seek multiple sponsors for the Kiddush, Challah, Soup, and Torah classes. We do this because we need to find ways to cover our budgetary shortfall that has been caused by the coronavirus. The donations coming to the shul have been dramatically reduced. We greatly appreciate those of you who are still supporting us! G-d bless you! We greatly appreciate your understanding as we seek ways of propping up the income necessary to keep things afloat. Your ideas about additional income streams are likewise greatly appreciated!

A Word of Torah
Living with the Times - Tetzaveh – And You Shall Command
Hiding in Plain Sight
By: Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort
This week’s Torah portion is titled “Tetzaveh”, which means “And you shall command.” The ornate, unique, and exquisite garments designated for the priestly class in general, and the high priest in particular, are described in detail. This portion dovetails perfectly with last week’s portion of Terumah, which spoke about the furnishings of the Tabernacle/Mishkan. We now have a fairly clear idea of how the Tabernacle would look and the uniform of those who served inside of it. When we reach the Book of Leviticus we will see how G-d was to be served in the Mishkan.
Sometimes we can learn more by what we don’t see than what we do see. This portion may be a perfect example, as the name of Moshe does not appear. This is very strange! Moshe is the “you” in the, “And YOU shall command,” at the outset. There is no doubt that he is an integral part of this week’s narrative. In fact, Moses’ name appears in every portion from the time he enters the picture at the beginning of the Book of Exodus until the final portion in the Book of Deuteronomy. So profoundly is Moses associated with the Torah that the Torah itself is called the Torah of Moses.
Why is his name omitted in this portion?
We have to look a few weeks ahead to find the answer. In the portion of Ki Tisa (When you will count), we encounter the sobering story of the infamous Golden Calf. By way of a reminder: When Moses ascended on Mount Sinai to receive the Torah the Jewish people miscalculated when he was due to return. When he was ‘late’ some of them quickly despaired of Moses ever returning, feeling that G-d had abandoned them (G-d forbid!), and therefore eagerly sought something they could point to as their new leader. Tragically they built the Golden Calf. Evidently you could take the people out of Egypt, but taking Egypt out of the people was a bit more time consuming.
The Almighty was ready to wipe out the people and start fresh with Moses, who would serve as the founder of G-d’s new “Chosen People.” Moses refused. In fact he insisted that the Creator forgive the people this terrible trespass, or else, he threatened, “Take my name out of Your book!” Moses argued that if G-d could not forgive (even) this sin, Moses wanted no part of the whole enterprise going forward. Of course this is precisely the character trait that G-d wanted Moses to display. Moses had been chosen because he was a tireless advocate for and defender of the Jewish people.
Nevertheless, Moses had uttered the words that his name should be taken out of the Torah (if G-d would not forgive the people). Even though G-d did forgive the people a decree of a righteous person of Moshe’s stature has a residual effect, and so his name is omitted from our portion.
This particular year we have an interesting flow of the calendar, as the Holiday of Purim flows directly into the Shabbat when this portion is read. There is something extraordinary about the Book of Esther, which differentiates it from all other books of the Bible (TaNaCh – Five Books of Moses, Prophets, and Writings). Megillat Esther is the only book in the Bible in which G-d’s name does not appear! When one reads the Megillah, from cover to cover, one discerns G-d’s profound involvement. We see how the Almighty is actually in charge of everything. Ironically we only fully appreciate G-d’s involvement after the fact.
It is telling that the holiday that commemorates a vast G-dly miracle without mentioning G-d’s name is attached to a portion that describes numerous commandments conveyed through Moshe without mentioning his name.
This seems to be indicating to us that we need to be analytical in our outlook of the world. Not always is what we see on the surface is the whole story. Many times a superficial understanding is misleading. We are depriving ourselves of a much deeper appreciation of how G-d interacts with us when we neglect to dig deeper. The same can be said regarding our grasp of the presence of Moses throughout the Torah. Even when not mentioned by name we must know that Moses is right there. Even when we feel lost in the dark the fact is that G-d is present with us.
Ultimately we should realize that just like in the Purim story the situation changed radically, from utter destruction to complete salvation, in the blink of an eye. That is exactly what we should all be awaiting as we prepare for the immediate arrival of our Righteous Moshiach!
Shabbat Shalom!
Haftarah of Parshat Tetzaveh
Ezekiel 43:10-27.
In this week's haftorah, the prophet Ezekiel describes a vision of the altar that will be built for the third Holy Temple and its dedication ceremony—paralleling this week's Torah portion which discusses the dedication of the Tabernacle's altar.
Shortly after the destruction of the first Temple, Ezekiel experienced a vision of the third Holy Temple that will be built by the Messiah. G d tells Ezekiel to recount to the Jewish people this vision, and this hopefully will bring them to be ashamed of the deeds they did that caused the destruction of the Temple. "And if they are ashamed of all that they have done, let them know the form of the House and its scheme, its exits and its entrances, and all its forms, and all its laws and all its teachings..."
Ezekiel then goes on to describe in detail the third Temple's altar, and also describes its seven-day inauguration ceremony and the offerings which will be brought on each day of that special week.
Weekly Sermon will take place immediately following the Daily Tanya class, which will begin at 8:45am
Join Rabbi Eilfort Friday afternoons at 12pm on Facebook Live for his Weekly Sermon. If you have not already done so, please send Rabbi Eilfort (Yeruchem Eilfort) a Friend Request on Facebook!

Need a Minyan?
If you need a Minyan to say Kaddish please give the office at least a few days’ notice. We are happy to provide this important service, but it takes time to arrange enough participants to assure the quorum is present. Please email [email protected] your request.
Shabbat Services with Meaning & Joy
Every Saturday we get together to celebrate the holy Shabbat in song and prayer. Our services are both traditional and user-friendly, as we fully recognize that not everyone has experience Davening (praying) in a traditional setting. What those who have joined have found is that the atmosphere in our synagogue is conducive to meaningful meditation. A knowledge of Hebrew is not necessary to participate. In fact, the only thing that is needed is the desire to learn and to connect to the Almighty. It is an enriching experience not to be missed! Shabbat services begin at 10am and conclude at approximately 12:30pm and are followed by a wonderful community lunch. There is no cost to attend and reservations are not needed.
Membership
NOW is the time to join the family! Membership includes High Holiday seats and discounts on other programs and activities. However, the main reason to join is to demonstrate your commitment to the future of Judaism in our area and to our community.
If you have already filled out and returned your Membership form please accept this message as our sincere thank you!
We urge you to pick the level of Membership and the financial commitment you feel comfortable with, and to fill out the form that you will find by following this link: www.ChabadatLaCosta.com/membership. We thank all of our amazing donors!
Create Your Jewish Legacy Plan for the Future - Now

We have been blessed with life! Yet, we know that no one lives forever. This begs the question, “What will your legacy be?” Most of us have children, and they certainly should figure prominently into our plans. But our children are only a part of what we leave behind. Just as we endeavor to give Tzedakah generously, so as to selflessly make the world a better place while we are alive, so too we need to make sure that we leave a percentage of our estates for the benefit of others. Judaism tells us that it is incumbent upon us to leave the world better than when we found it. We do this by giving Tzedakah.
We can help.
Chabad has partnered with the Jewish Community Foundation in the creation of our Legacy Circle "Generation to Generation - Ensuring a Jewish Tomorrow, Today". Many people do not prepare appropriately for the inevitable. They do not leave a will, or even if they do it is not consistent with Jewish Law. If one wants his body to be handled with the respect and care mandated by Jewish Law or if one wants the funeral service conducted according to Jewish Law, it must be arranged in advance. Don’t leave these critical details to luck!
Contact Rabbi Eilfort for a private appointment so these important matters can be handled how you want.

Memorial Plaques & Tree of Life Plaques Available
Our beautiful Memorial Boards have been installed. We specifically designed our custom-built bookcases to ‘frame’ each of the boards. The first Memorial Board was dedicated by the Brunelle Family, the second Board was dedicated by the Alter Family, and the new Board has been dedicated by Miriam Reisman in memory of her husband, Harold.
We are currently offering Memorial Plaques to those who wish to perpetually honor the memory of a loved one in a most dignified and permanent manner. Those who dedicate Memorial Plaques will also receive yearly reminders of the Yarzeit in the newsletter and in the calendar and the light on the Board will be illuminated each year on the Yarzeit. The donation is only $500 per Memorial Board plaque.
We also have a gorgeous Tree of Life dedicated by the Lieberman Family that has been ‘growing. The purpose of the plaques on the Tree of Life is to commemorate joyous occasions (like Bar/Bat Mitzvah, anniversaries, special birthdays, weddings etc.). The donation is $180 for a leaf on the Tree of Life.
Those who wish to participate should send an email to [email protected], or call Rabbi Eilfort at 760-943-8891.
We are excited to designate a section of our Tree of Life to our Legacy Circle. Watch the Tree and see article above.

Shul Etiquette
Those who join us regularly for Shabbat services will agree that we have something very special going. The family-friendly atmosphere is unique and most inviting. We welcome everyone as though he/she is a long time member of the family.
At the same time it is important to remember that we are a synagogue. Our sanctuary is meant to be a place where it is conducive to finding inner peace and tranquility. That is why the Rabbis have many laws concerning the decorum of a shul.
It is appropriate to dress modestly and to dress somewhat formally in shul. Men should wear button down shirts, slacks (no jeans or shorts), with jackets and even ties when possible. Of course the head is to be kept covered at all times. Women should wear skirts that go past the knees and blouses with high neck lines and sleeves that cover the elbows. Married women should wear hats and the like.
Children must be supervised at all times by the parents except during Junior Congregation (11:30am). While we want the children to have a great time together it is also important that they do not become so wild and/or boisterous that they disturb those of us who are participating in the services.
We must remember that we should walk to shul and never park in the parking lot if there already eight cars parked. Finally, and we fully realize this goes against Jewish DNA, it is appropriate to come to shul ON TIME. While we know everyone is vying to be counted as the 10th, we are equally sure Hashem will give extra credit to those who come ON TIME at 10am (not to be confused with 11:30). We look forward to seeing you here!
Cell Phones & Chatting During Services
Needless to say the sanctuary on Shabbat or holidays is a place that must be conducive to reflective prayers and serenity. To help keep it this way, please refrain from engaging in any conversations during services and please do not bring in your cell phone. Thank you for your cooperation.
Critical Maintenance Issue – Your Cooperation Needed
PLEASE NOTE: The ONLY thing that may be flushed is toilet paper – NO EXCEPTIONS. This means tissue, baby wipes, paper towels, or any other product may NEVER be flushed, but instead must be disposed of in the provided trash receptacles.
THANK YOU for your cooperation!
Public Service Announcement – Let’s Work TOGETHER to Maintain OUR Shul
We have a beautiful shul. Everyone agrees. It is not easy to maintain everything, but we work hard to keep things clean and in good working order. We need your help.
Our sanctuary is graced with gorgeous, custom made, stained glass windows. These windows MUST be kept in pristine condition. Please respect the windows by only looking and never touching them. G-d forbid, they can easily be scratched if we are not careful. Also, please do not put ANY objects (cups, books, tissues etc.) on the window sills as it detracts from the windows.
Our custom-built furniture from Israel is as precious as it looks. People have put down cups (full and empty) on the partitions and the shelves. This is inappropriate. Children cannot sit on or climb on the furnishings – other than sitting in the pews as they were designed to be used. No exceptions.
Please put away your own Talis and prayer books, and replace the book racks when done using them. Please throw away your own garbage.
If we can all work together we will keep our shul beautiful!
THANK YOU for your understanding and cooperation.

Tzedakah news –
Ordinarily, individuals who elect to take the standard deduction cannot claim a deduction for their charitable contributions. The law now permits these individuals to claim a limited deduction on their 2021 federal income tax returns for cash contributions made to certain qualifying charitable organizations. Nearly nine in 10 taxpayers now take the standard deduction and could potentially qualify to claim a limited deduction for cash contributions.
These individuals, including married individuals filing separate returns, can claim a deduction of up to $300 for cash contributions made to qualifying charities during 2021. The maximum deduction is increased to $600 for married individuals filing joint returns.
Another tax tip: Donate a car, the amount the vehicle is sold for (if your non profit chooses to sell it) can also potentially lower your taxable income.

I arrive with my animals at little children's birthday parties, senior homes, graduation parties, and resorts in the area, to share my love of animals. I also do animal therapy with children and adults. Fantastic!! Call me to make an appointment or set up a birthday party.
